Liverpool take on Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid in the Champions League on November 4 in what could be one of the games of the season.

The Reds overcame Los Blancos in last season’s league phase - winning 2-0 at Anfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to make his competitive return for the 15-time European champions in the fixture.

Before that however and Alonso’s side have got the significant matter of El Clasico this weekend. The Bernabeu will host the visit of Barcelona in one of Europe’s grandest fixtures.

Madrid top the Spanish standings at this stage - winning eight of their nine matches - with Barcelona in second place.

Given that the Reds will soon face Madrid in European competition it makes sense that Liverpool staff will take their place at the Bernabeu on Sunday for El Clasico.

Liverpool will be in attendance for El Clasico

Arne Slot’s team of analysts and coaches will want to know as much about Alonso’s men as possible before the showdown. A report from Defensa Central details what Liverpool delegates will be looking for at the weekend during the scouting mission.

“A Liverpool representative will be at the Bernabéu on Sunday to follow the match live and take notes on Xabi Alonso's team ahead of their match on November 4th,” the report reads.

“Slot wants direct and precise information on how Madrid attacks a high line and how they move the ball against a high opponent's press.”

Liverpool to scout Camavinga AND Tchouameni

However there is another reason why Liverpool staff will be in attendance at the Spanish capital venue.

The Premier League champions have suffered many problems in midfield so far this season - with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo ALREADY suffering injury trouble.

Therefore it’s been suggested that a couple of Real Madrid midfielders could be in focus this weekend as Richard Hughes eyes up reinforcements for January or beyond.

“Some of the players Liverpool like the most are Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni,” the report reads.

“They believe they are top-level midfielders who could perform much better in the Premier League, playing in a team with Slot's Liverpool system.”

Camavinga looks the most achievable of the pair right now. He’s lost his starting berth under Alonso and could be available if the price is right.

Tchouameni has re-established himself under the Basque tactician - and is reported to have previously turned down a move to the Reds. The 25-year-old joined Madrid back in 2022 from Monaco and is under contract until 2028.
