Liverpool told to pursue DREAM Harry Kane transfer

Liverpool are known to be interested in signing a centre forward this summer. The Reds require a reliable goalscorer in the No9 position and someone who can hold the ball up and get his wingers in behind.

Doesn’t seem like too much of an ask, does it?

Current options Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have been incapable of producing the right kind of form on a consistent basis - and both face the chop this summer.

Sporting director Richard Hughes will be hoping to earn between £80m and £100m for the pair - whose futures are uncertain after failing to win over Arne Slot.

Nunez - signed for £85m from Benfica - has scored five Premier League goals all season. He is attracting attention from Fenerbahce and Atletico Madrid. Jota, meanwhile, has been linked with Arsenal and Wolves.

There is no shortage of players linked with an incoming transfer. Alexander Isak heads the list of course with others like Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike also associated with an Anfield move.

The problem? The price tags.

Shouldn't Harry Kane be considered?

Isak is reported to be valued at £150m by Newcastle while others like Pedro and Ekitike look set to be valued at over £100m.

In this market the best VALUE option appears to be Jonathan David - who could come in for free but who is also on the shopping list of other top clubs.

One name brought up by two prominent pundits in relation to Liverpool in the last few days has been Harry Kane.

And there are several reasons why the Bayern Munich striker might be an intriguing prospect for the Reds to consider this summer.

Last year it was reported that Kane had an €80m release clause in his Bayern contract but chose not to activate it having failed to win the Bundesliga.

Next summer the clause drops to €65m and Kane, don’t forget, has recently won the first trophy of his senior career with the German league title.

Presumably, this summer’s fee would be somewhere between last year’s and next year's. That means Liverpool could test the waters at €70m or so.

'Liverpool would love to have Kane'

“We miss him – his quality and class,” Gary Neville told the Gary Neville podcast on Sunday.

“You think of these two teams today (Chelsea and Liverpool), they’d love to have Kane up front.

“Every team in the Premier League would. Manchester City have Erling Haaland but some teams are really lacking a top centre forward.

“Liverpool will be looking at a centre forward, Manchester United will be looking at a centre forward, Chelsea will be looking at a centre-forward.”

And then Ally McCoist suggested something similar on talkSPORT.

"I just think, for Liverpool, that would be a dream move for them,” he said.

Kane’s job is done in Germany; he’s won the title and there is pressing business for him to attend to in the Prem. The England captain is 48 goals behind Alan Shearer in the race to become the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer.

Given his scoring rate over the past two seasons at Bayern - 80 in 89 games - he could knock that total off in two seasons in this Liverpool team.

“That is not an issue,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund told Abend Zeitung this week of the possibility of Kane returning home.

“Harry is generally very well respected in the team. He gets along well with everyone. He is in the prime of his life and has acclimatised himself superbly in Munich. Even the departure of his friend Eric Dier in the summer does not directly affect Harry.”

Questions are being asked, so it IS clearly a topic around Munich.

Kane has another chapter to write in his Premier League story. He comes with the guarantee of goals; 24 in the Bundesliga this season from 51 shots on target. Liverpool can only DREAM of such efficiency.

And yes the wage costs need to be addressed. Kane is reported to be on €400k per week at Bayern - putting him into the Virgil van Dijk and Salah bracket.

But Liverpool are about to clear the decks. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s salary saves £180k per week at once. Factor in the wages being spent on Jota, Nunez and someone like Federico Chiesa and you are there with change to spare.

It wouldn’t be a long-term relationship; Kane is turning 32 this summer and would be an option for two or three seasons at most. But this convenient relationship could be mutually beneficial.

Liverpool give Kane the platform to break his records and win more trophies, Kane in return delivers the goals.

His record is impeccable, he stays fit, and there are no better Premier League proven strikers on the market. It sounds impossible right now but maybe Gary Neville is right for once.
