Dream Arne Slot transfer on the verge of COLLAPSE

The transfer of Arne Slot's dreams might now be on the verge of collapse after the latest update.

Liverpool pounced on the Premier League title-winning campaign - on the back of a £12.5m transfer spend - with a £450m war-chest for the 2025 summer window, as an attempt to all-but-confirm that the club would be going on to retain their crown in the 2025/26 season. It's not quite worked out yet.

A lot of talented players were brought to the club and most of them are already making a difference; Florian Wirtz is showing his quality on a regular basis and Hugo Ekitike has taken to the Reds like a duck to water, scoring five goals in 14 appearances. After a blip in October, we're now back on track.

Alexander Isak will hopefully be really close to full-fitness soon after his struggled so far this season, and his subsequent groin concern, but the notion of adding a £130m to this squad is frankly absurd.

However, one player that Slot has been dreaming of, and who would make a massive difference to his side right now, is reportedly no longer available for a future transfer - a blow for the Dutchman.

Van De Ven is slipping away AGAIN

Liverpool's need for a centre-half has been well reported and few are better than Micky Van De Ven.

The 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender has been imperious in defence, helping to keep six clean sheets in the 14 games he's played. For context, Spurs have only won eight games this season.

In addition, he's the Lilywhite's top scorer this season, with a remarkable six goals to his name.

Suggestions that the Dutchman was on the move are wrong, he's contract until 2029 and we haven't been given any encouragement to suggest that he might have been looking to leave Tottenham. Of course, his spat with Thomas Frank last week made it look like there might have been some tension brewing, but his commitment to the club hasn't really been in doubt. He was merely frustrated.

But, over the course of the season, we could have seen reason for an approach to be made, one that could have unsettled him slightly and got him to re-think his priorities if Spurs were to struggle again.

Although, it now appears as though Liverpool won't even have that chance, because a substantial pay-rise might be agreed with Van De Ven to potential extend his stay in North London beyond 2029.

TeamTalk have recently cited an update from Graeme Bailey at TBR Football, where he said: "A new deal for Van De Ven is emerging as one of Tottenham's priorities under Vinai Venkatesham's reign, and talks have already been taking place since this summer.

"But this is both ways, Van De Ven is very happy at Tottenham, he has settled in brilliantly since he arrived, having now emerged as one of the Premier League's best, and his partnership with Cristian Romero is on par with anything in the game.

"Yes, both Spurs and Van De Ven are aware of interest; there is no denying that. Spurs believe he is one of the best anywhere in Europe, and they are recognising this with this prospective new deal.

"Talks are set to accelerate this month."

Whether the Dutchman chooses to commit most of his future to Tottenham or not, still needs to be confirmed, but either way, his current deal until 2029 makes it very difficult for Liverpool to sign him.

Slot been a fan of the Dutchman for a while, looking to sign him at each of his last three clubs, and the appreciation between the two is mutual, although his desire to work with Slot might not be strong enough to persuade him to part from the bright lights of the capital. As such, it's just not meant to be.
