CHAMPION star could be coming to Liverpool
Liverpool have a plan in mind that could land a champion at the club. The Reds will re-enter the transfer market.
Liverpool are in need of a new centre-back with Giovanni Leoni now out long-term. The 18-year-old may well miss the entire season after rupturing his ACL on debut this week.
It’s a massive blow, of course. Not just because it leaves Liverpool short at the back but because Leoni looked like an absolute star against Southampton.

The Italian lived up to his reputation as one of the best young defenders in football, demonstrating composure and authority you’d expect from someone 10 years older. We were excited to see how he’d develop this season - now that excitement is on hold until the next campaign.
Liverpool will need to replace him, though. Anyone who remembers the 2020/21 campaign will cringe at the idea of playing out the season with just three centre-backs.
Especially when all three of them have suffered long-term injuries before. It’s just far too risky.
And there’s another factor at play. Ibrahima Konate is out of contract next summer and will need replacing at some point if he’s not renewing.
And how about finding a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk? It’s all got to be on the cards for Liverpool.
That’ll be why their attention has turned to a top-level centre-back.
Liverpool chase Dayot Upamecano
Bild reports that Liverpool are now strongly considering a move for Dayot Upamecano. The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and may choose to leave Bayern Munich.
Upamecano isn't just an international teammate of Konate's but he's a former club teammate. The pair of them played at RB Leipzig together, with both leaving in 2022.
Now their respective contracts are coming up at the exact same time. And that could even lead to Upamecano replacing Konate at Anfield.
But would Bayern entertain a January sale? That will depend on a lot of factors, with the club's eagerness to get a fee sitting at the top of the list.
If Upamecano is ultimately happy to join Liverpool and leave Bayern, then we imagine the Reds will test their German counterparts in the winter. It makes this one to keep an eye on as the Frenchman is undoubtedly of the stature Liverpool are after.
