Liverpool centre-back signs new contract
Liverpool may well be set for a big transition at centre-back in the coming transfer windows.
We could see Ibrahima Konate move on - with the 26-year-old’s contract expiring in 2026. If Richard Hughes is unable to convince the France international to sign a new deal then he will be LEAVING on a free next summer.

That is unless the Reds entertain bids for Konate in January and it’s known that Real Madrid are keen on his signature.

We could also see AC Milan with another bid for Joe Gomez - who was linked with the Serie A giants as well as Crystal Palace during the summer.
Liverpool's centre-back uncertainty
Liverpool opted to renew the contract of Virgil van Dijk until 2027 - but in two years' time the centre-back department may well look unrecognisable from what it is now.
Giovanni Leoni should of course be a Liverpool player for years to come - with the 18-year-old Italian inking a long-term deal having signed from Parma for £26m.
And the Premier League club can be reasonably assured of having Marc Guehi on board next summer too with the Crystal Palace captain also out of contract and coming so close to signing for the Reds last summer.
Airoboma agrees new deal
Who knows, even Jarell Quansah could be back home by then - should Richard Hughes choose to activate the buyback clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract.
The planning for the future won’t stop there however and one more promising defender has just signed his first professional deal with the club.
Emmanuel Airoboma has been at Liverpool since under-12 level - stepping up from the club’s U18 ranks to U21 this season. The 18-year-old will be expected to go from strength to strength at Premier League 2 level under new coach Rob Page.
Airoboma - a versatile defender
Airoboma is by nature a centre-back but can also play right-back and has been described by the club as a “versatile” defender.
And last week brought confirmation that Airoboma had signed his first pro deal - meaning that Liverpool have got high hopes and expectations for the English youth.
It could be all change for the Reds in the centre-back department in the seasons ahead - and Airoboma along with Leoni could well represent the future of the club’s defence.
