Liverpool CONFIRM move for excellent defender
Liverpool have used the loan system this season with varying degrees of success.
Luca Stepheson has been the standout loan star once again - excelling in his second temporary spell north of the border with Dundee United.
Indeed it’s even been speculated that the 22-year-old might be brought back to Anfield for the second half of the campaign.
But for every Stephenson there’s a James McConnell - with his loan spell at Ajax cut short following the sacking of John Heitinga.
The Reds have not been deterred however and plan to make use of the loan system once again for the second half of the season.
Luke Chambers joins Charlton
And one player now confirmed to be away from Anfield for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign is Luke Chambers. The 21-year-old left-back has been experiencing some tough times owing to injury.
A spell at Wigan last season was curtailed due to a back problem and Chambers has only recently hit the comeback trail.
Following an appearance for the under-21s back in December it was speculated that he would remain with the age group in order to build fitness.
Nonetheless Championship side Charlton have now announced the signing of Chambers - who is coming to the Valley to improve Nathan Jones’ options at left-back and left wing-back.
Technically excellent Chambers gives Liverpool something to think about
"He is technically excellent, athletic and a progressive passer,” said Charlton managing director James Rodwell.
Chambers has played four times for the Liverpool first team - last appearing for the Reds during Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge.
The former England U19 international has experienced loan spells previously at Kilmarnock as well as Wigan.
This will be a great opportunity for him to regain match rhythm and perhaps give Richard Hughes something to think about as the futures of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are being worked on.
"He’s a talented, young, hungry player of real pedigree, having come through the Liverpool youth system and represented their first team, so I’m looking forward to working with him,” said Addicks’ manager Nathan Jones.
