Liverpool among FIVE suitors for PSV sensation

Liverpool have been named as one of five clubs vying for the signature of PSV’s  attacking sensation Johan Bakayoko this summer.

It could take a bid of up to €60m (£51m) to convince the Dutch champions-elect to part with their prized asset, who has scored eight goals and provided 13 assists in 40 matches this season.

Runaway Eredivisie leaders PSV have only dropped points in three league matches this season and remain undefeated in the Dutch top flight, with Bakayoko among their most consistent attacking threats.

They reached the last 16 of the Champions League too, with Borussia Dortmund ending their hopes last week.

Bakayoko is expected to be a standout for Belgium during the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament with PSV director of football Earnie Stewart admitting earlier this year that it is likely the 20-year-old right winger will be sold this summer.

And Sky Sports Germany now reports that the Reds are in a fight with Chelsea, Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for his signature.

Last year Bakayoko renewed terms with Peter Bosz’s side, with his new contract tying him to the club until 2026.

It’s also been reported that Brentford failed with an ambitious effort to attract him to London in the January transfer window.

PSV turned away bids in hope of attracting a bigger bid this summer after the season ends and in the event that Bakayoko has a good Euros.

Liverpool plans for post-Klopp window continue

Liverpool are seeking to replenish their attacking line in the medium to long term with 31-year-old Mohamed Salah's future still to be resolved.

Diogo Jota has missed a substantial chunk of the season again through injury, while Cody Gakpo best role remains unclear.

Incoming sporting director Richard Hughes will have plenty on his plate to contend with during the first post-Jurgen Klopp transfer window.

Lists of targets have been drawn up by the club’s recruitment department even in the absence of a permanent appointee to the role following Jorg Schmadkte’s departure after the January transfer window closed.
