Testing Arne Slot's theory: One player at EVERY Premier League club who could play for Liverpool
Arne Slot said earlier this season that one of the big differences between the Eredivisie and the Premier League is that every team in the English top flight has at least one player capable of performing at a top club.
The same, he suggested, could not be said for the Dutch league. It’s no secret that Liverpool have been taking a look at several targets ahead of the transfer window opening.

And so we thought we’d put Slot’s theory to the test by listing each Premier League club (in descending order) and naming at least one player from each we think would hold their own at Liverpool.
READ MORE: Is Trent Alexander-Arnold STAYING at Liverpool?
Not necessarily in the first team but someone who is on the level of becoming an option for Slot and the Reds. Here goes.
Arsenal
It would be remiss not to mention Bukayo Saka, who could get into the Liverpool squad as a rotation option in place of Mohamed Salah. Other than that, honestly, it’s slim pickings.
Maybe Jurrien Timber’s versatility could have been useful in defence when Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate were injured.
Newcastle
Liverpool admire Alexander Isak and he’s better than any striker we’ve got. So he’s in.
We’d have Anthony Gordon too if he were available, plus Lewis Hall is another name on the list at Anfield.
Manchester City
Well, we liked Omar Marmoush so there’s one straight away. We’re fairly well covered in positions where City’s other stars play - other than centre-forward that is.
We probably should have signed Erling Haaland after he scored for Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield. And let’s have Josko Gvardiol, who could cover both left-back and centre-back.
Chelsea
Let’s go for Levi Colwill, who isn’t quite the force he once threatened to be, but is still held in high regard by Liverpool recruiters. In fact, he could be a viable deal.
Cole Palmer is on a downturn but that hasn’t stopped us “sniffing around” according to reports. He’s not better than Salah though.
Nottingham Forest
We like Murillo, the 22-year-old centre-back. He could replace Ibrahima Konate if we had to sell him and maybe be groomed as a long-term Virgil van Dijk successor.
Ola Aina would be an intriguing pick-up as a free transfer to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and Neco Williams is welcome back any time to provide squad cover.
Aston Villa
Ollie Watkins is an outside shot to arrive at Anfield this summer; let’s face it he’s better than both Jota and Nunez. We’d have Morgan Rogers too. Boubacar Kamara could provide relief - and competition for Ryan Gravenberch.
Fulham
Antonee Robinson is probably the best left-back in the league these days and we need one. He is a viable option.
Brighton
There’s potentially a couple here. We’d have Carlos Baleba as a midfield option in a heartbeat and there’s every chance he could go to become a world-class performer in time.
Joao Pedro is a very nice player too but ÂŁ100m looks a little rich for our bones. That said, we can imagine him playing up top for the Reds.
Brighton also signed reported Liverpool targets in Yankuba Minteh, Ferdi Kadioglu, Mats Wieffer and Brajan Gruda last summer too. Clearly, been copying our homework.
Bournemouth
Take your pick. We’ve been tipped for several with Richard Hughes being their former technical director.
Milos Kerkez would probably get straight into the team, as would Antoine Semenyo.
Dean Huijsen looks a great long-term prospect but does he break up the Konate - Van Dijk partnership? Not sure.
Brentford
He looks the best bet from around the Premier League to actually replace Mo Salah someday. But he’s not likely to stick around for minutes here and there until Salah leaves.
That said, he can play different positions - such as up top and in the support striker role. At ÂŁ50m, this would be a no-brainer.
Kevin Schade has done enough to merit the raising of Liverpool eyebrows at the very least.
Crystal Palace
Another few here that we’ve already been linked with; Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi most notably.
But looking further into the squad, Daniel Munoz would be a decent acquisition at right-back / wing-back if Trent goes and Jean-Philippe Mateta is begging for the opportunity to prove himself at a higher level.
Wolves
Another potential quarry for the Reds here. First of all, Rayan Ait-Nouri looks a solid option to come in at left-back - he can also play wing-back and centre-back.
Joao Gomes has been liked at Anfield for a long time and Matheus Cunha is a very, very intriguing possibility.
Manchester United
Tough, this one. We were interested in both Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu so let’s say them. Not really sure about the rest.
Everton
Maybe the hardest one. Maybe Jarrad Branthwaite?
Tottenham
Liverpool AND Arne Slot are reported to like Micky van de Ven. And let’s have Dominic Solanke back up front now he’s flourishing. Another club where it’s hard to discern the quality.
West Ham
Jarrod Bowen could conceivably be placed in the “eventually replace Salah” category but he’s probably too old for that at this stage of his career.
Mohammed Kudus, meanwhile, has levelled off. We’d have him but not at his £80m release clause.
Ipswich
Liam Delap is available for £30m and Liverpool should be all over it. Someone else who could do a job is Leif Davis; among the best offensive full-backs in the league this season. The last time we signed a relegated left-back it didn’t work out badly.
Leicester
Bilal El Khannouss is an established target and could move on as Leicester have PSR concerns. At 20, he could be useful in a squad role. We’ve been tipped to move for Jeremy Monga too but that would be one for the academy.

Southampton
Struggling here, genuinely, but it’s been reported that our scouts have watched Tyler Dibling. He would be a great acquisition for the long-term but at £100m, you have to just move on.
Slot was right! Even Man Utd and Everton have a player who might squeeze into the Liverpool squad.
