Richard Hughes prepares move for Germany international midfielder
Liverpool are expected to shake up their midfield options in the summer transfer window.
Arne Slot has been relying on the same cast of characters in midfield for the past couple of seasons. And he is getting diminishing returns from some of his midfield members - including Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.
Neither has been the same player this season as opposed to the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning season.
Factor in a complicated contract scenario for Curtis Jones - out of contract in 2027 and no sign of a new deal - and you can see why Arne Slot and Richard Hughes might be considering new midfielders.
And now it’s emerged that Germany international Angelo Stiller is in the frame to arrive at Anfield over the summer.
Angelo Stiller on Liverpool's radar
The 25-year-old Stuttgart conductor is set to be a man in demand this summer as various clubs around England and Europe line up bids. According to a report in Football Insider Premier League interest could come from Liverpool as well as Manchester United.
“Angelo Stiller is on the radar of both Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window as he impresses at Stuttgart,” the report reads.
Stiller will be starring for Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with his club hoping to cash in after the tournament.
According to a recent report they have managed to remove a tantalising release clause in his contract - meaning a bumper payday for Stuttgart if they sell Stiller this summer.
Angelo Stiller: Situation summary
Angelo Stiller is a 25-year-old German defensive midfielder and the metronome of VfB Stuttgart’s midfield, having joined from Hoffenheim in 2023 and extended his deal through 2028.
A Bayern academy product, he has grown into a Bundesliga standout and full Germany international, central to Stuttgart’s rise into regular European contention.
Stiller operates as a deep-lying playmaker/No.6, dropping between centre-backs to dictate build-up with high-volume, high-accuracy passing—short combinations, switches and vertical punches into the half-spaces.
He’s more technical than physical, but reads the game superbly, posting strong numbers for ball recoveries and ground duels and quickly rearming attacks after regains.
Contract-wise, Stuttgart have him tied down to 2028 while internally valuing him close to €50m amid interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United, Newcastle and Spurs.
His most plausible next step is a move to a Champions League-level club needing a ball-playing No.6 or deep No.8 to organise possession.
