It’s no secret that Liverpool have got some significant contract problems to solve in the near future.

2026 will bring the expiry of Ibrahima Konate’s current deal - with the Frenchman heavily linked to Real Madrid.

And there is also the future of Andy Robertson to consider. The Scotland captain, 31, has been at Anfield since 2017 - going on to become a double Premier League champion and a Champions League winner.

However the 2024/25 title-winning campaign saw Robbo occasionally lose the trust of head coach Arne Slot - who was minded to try Kostas Tsimikas instead.

What does the future hold for Robertson?

And left-back was then identified as an area for upgrade by Richard Hughes over the summer - with the sporting director moving for £40m Milos Kerkez.

Robertson has been on the bench more often than not - even as the Hungarian struggles for consistency - leaving question marks over his long-term future.

Atletico Madrid were reportedly keen to sign Robertson over the summer but the left-back decided to stay put. He was given the vice-captaincy owing to his leadership qualities but with an expiring contract it remains to be seen what his future holds.

"Liverpool will be looking to sit down" with Robertson

Now a report from Football Insider claims that a renewal is not off the cards for Robertson - who would no doubt attract several offers if his availability was disclosed.

“I’m sure there will be talks held between Robertson and Liverpool to see if they can try and sort out a new contract, but the longer it drags on, there’s no new deal agreed,” a report reads.

“It obviously opens up to the possibility that he could potentially sign a pre-contract in January or leave on a free transfer next summer, bit like his close mate Trent Alexander-Arnold did when he got the opportunity to move to Real Madrid.

“So look, if Andy Robertson doesn’t sign a new contract Liverpool, there won’t be any shortage of offers for him.

“Scotland captain, Liverpool vice-captain, played at the highest level now for a number of years.

“But, I’m sure Liverpool will be looking to sit down and have talks with him and hoping that they’re going to agree some type of new contract with him.”

Robertson can count himself as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever signings - coming on board from Hull for only £8m and going on to play close to 400 times for the club across a trophy-laden spell.

Kerkez could do with having Robertson around to help him settle in for the long term. Let’s hope a satisfactory conclusion can be reached.
