Liverpool may have something massive planned. Florian Wirtz is not the end of it.

Florian Wirtz will complete a move to Liverpool on Friday. It will be the Reds' record transfer, eclipsing the £75m paid for Virgil van Dijk by some way.

£100m is the reported initial fee. That could stretch some way higher if add-ons are triggered. Essentially, this becomes the British record only if Wirtz is a huge success.

He's got every box ticked to be just that, too. Wirtz is an incredible talent and one worthy of being the most expensive player to arrive in English football.

But there's another way he may not become the British transfer record. Liverpool may be about to go even bigger.

Liverpool have something else brewing

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims Liverpool are still dreaming of Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United striker remains their ultimate target in this transfer window.

But Newcastle don't have to sell. In fact, they're proving incredibly difficult to negotiate with after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool essentially need to hope that Newcastle would prefer the cash they could get for Isak in order to upgrade their squad. If so, perhaps a deal could happen.

Though even then, we're still talking about a transfer record deal. Something that could approach £150m.

Liverpool have that kind of money available after sales this summer. They made a profit ahead of a title-winning season and boast a wonderful amount of room with PSR.

That opens the door to two record transfers this summer, along with Wirtz. Isak would unquestionably be the preferred signing there.

Other options remain, like Hugo Ekitike, but we can't imagine Liverpool will move for him until Isak is completely off the table. The suggestion from Jacobs, as he writes for GiveMeSport, is that the Reds don't believe he's off the table.

This one should run for a little while longer, then. And it might just end with Isak at Anfield.
