Liverpool to REPEAT Alexander Isak trick in deal for Newcastle midfielder

Geordies wouldn’t sell. But sporting director Richard Hughes stuck to his task - eventually completing a British record £125m deal for the No9.

Isak had annoyed the Magpies’ fanbase by effectively going on strike - missing the club’s preseason campaign as well as the first three matches of the Premier League season.

Liverpool in for Sandro Tonali

He too knew what he wanted and although the deal came late on deadline day the Reds finally got their man. And now a new report suggests that the Anfield club are prepared to repeat their Isak trick in order to try to sign another key Newcastle first-team player.

Sandro Tonali, 25, has been a bright spot in a poor season for the North East outfit. The Italian international runs the show in midfield for the Toon - but has been increasingly linked with a move away.

Now into his third season at St. James’ Park Tonali has got a contract until 2028 but talk is ramping up about an exit.

Tonali an attractive signing

According to Dean Jones in TEAMtalk Liverpool and Real Madrid are both interested in adding the schemer and Juventus has also emerged as a potential destination.

The attraction for Liverpool signing Tonali is obvious. He is a Premier League-proven midfielder - potentially available at just the right time for the Merseysiders.

Liverpool haven’t had a midfield refit since 2023 - when the likes of Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch arrived.

Arne Slot requires legs and quality in his midfield - with Tonali well-placed to give an ideal solution. Let’s keep an eye on how this one develops - and Liverpool could well end up repeating their Isak trick for Tonali.
