Alexander Isak could be DELIVERED to Liverpool after transfer twist

Liverpool are likely to conduct a shakeup at centre-forward this summer. Current options in the No9 position include Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez - but neither has managed to convince Arne Slot throughout the season.

Jota has been too often injured since joining from Wolves in 2020 and the 28-year-old only has two years left to run on his contract. It’s not worked out, meanwhile, for Nunez - Liverpool’s record signing at £85m.

The former Benfica player has only scored five Premier League goals this season and attracted criticism from Slot for his attitude during a league game against Aston Villa earlier this year.

Bids therefore could be considered for the pair - as long as sporting director Richard Hughes gets the right offer. If Liverpool manage to offload both Jota and Nunez then space opens up for a new frontman.

There hasn’t been a shortage of names linked - Jonathan David, Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro among them - but one name stands out above all others.

Liverpool have Isak on the list

It’s Newcastle’s Alexander Isak - who scored against the Reds in the EFL Cup final. The big issue with the Sweden forward is his price; the Magpies are expected to seek around £150m for their 23-goal forward if he’s sold this summer.

Liverpool cannot afford that right now - especially if bids are going in for Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong - but making money through the sales of Jota and Nunez would go someway towards reducing the outlay.

And there are positive signs that Newcastle may now be set to entertain bids this summer despite reports to the contrary. With a contract expiring in 2028 - and no indication that he will sign a renewal - the 25-year-old could be up for sale in the off-season.

Newcastle line up deal for Dusan Vlahovic

According to the latest reports in Italy, the Champions League chasers have already identified a replacement in Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbian will be sold this summer - given that his contract expires in 2026 and he doesn’t want to renew. His wages are obscene - reported at €315,000 per week - but it looks like Newcastle are all in on the big No9.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Vlahovic is seeking a fitting farewell this weekend in what will be his final home game for Juve against Udinese.

As for his next destination, the Premier League comes out on top, with “Newcastle above all” according to a translation provided by Sport Witness.

So the transfer window merry-go-round is set to begin. Vlahovic to Newcastle should precede a big move for Isak to one of his many suitors.

Who better than the current Premier League champions with a vacancy at No9?
