Liverpool track West Ham star but he won't fix team's problems

It has been a poor season for manager Arne Slot as Liverpool have basically struggled on every level following the fantastic exploits we saw in his debut season in charge at Anfield.

There have been a number of reasons for this, and whilst the club arguably cannot control the off pitch distractions we saw when it came to Mohamed Salah, spending so big and on so many players during the summer transfer window has come back to bite the team with inconsistent performances, a complete lack of team understanding at points, and simply put we have probably had the season the board's proposed ticket price rises deserved.

Many may argue that you would have seen a better structure and plan of action from someone who uses a no kyc crypto casino as with 31 games played, we are sat in fifth place in the table and now only have Champions League qualification on the line in the Premier League, having never been in the title race. Having been dumped out of the League Cup in October, Liverpool are also out of the FA Cup and after Wednesday evening's Paris-Saint-Germain result, the team faces a huge battle to overcome a two-goal deficit to reach the semi-final of the Champions League.

With a stellar showing needed - maybe even just a shot? - for the second leg to restore some pride in Europe this year, it is only natural that fans turn their attentions to next season with hopes that our business is not quite as haphazard or 'kid with money in a sweet shop' in approach. Everyone knew that this season would be difficult after last campaign's highs as that is just how football works, but we effectively seriously hamstrung ourselves from the beginning and largely just destroyed the spirit and understanding our PL winners had created.

Whether or not West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes would prove to be an asset or a further complication here is probably for each fan to decide for themselves, but if reports are to be believed, the 21-year-old Portuguese international is said to be one of our top targets for this summer, and a number of outlets are suggesting Liverpool could target the player.

Transfer talk right now is a nice distraction, but if we are being honest about the coming campaign, we have no idea who may be jettisoned over the summer as right now a number of players look like they should have no future at Anfield, and more importantly maybe, even Slot's own place in the dugout is in doubt.

Claims of his departure over the summer may have quietened down in recent months but they have not gone away and the last couple of results will only bring those thoughts and frustrations back to the fore.

Given what we have seen from Fernandes again this year, he would absolutely be a quality addition to the group, but that would depend on him being used correctly and not thrown into a team who do not seem to be quite sure on whether they are playing with five at the back, or not.
