Liverpool to re-enter negotiations for 'fantastic' star soon

Liverpool still have a lot of things to figure out before the 2026-27 Premier League season gets underway.

The Anfield outfit will be wanting to challenge for the Premier League title and potentially the Champions League as well.

However, unless they start adding some new faces to their ranks soon, there's a chance that they might end up doing even worse than they did during the 2025-26 campaign.

This would be catastrophic, especially since everyone is expecting Andoni Iraola to turn Liverpool's form around almost instantly.

A month of the summer transfer window still remains so plenty could obviously change in that time but now, Liverpool are looking likely to re-enter negotiations with a European club over the transfer of a player.

Inter Milan are going to step up their interest for Curtis Jones again

Several members of Liverpool's first-team squad have already been linked with moves away this summer.

Some, such as Luca Stephenson have actually already exited despite their pre-season tour of the USA not even being finished yet.

The main reason for their pre-season tour is so that Iraola can weigh up who he wants to sell and who he wants to keep at Anfield.

Although no exits are concrete yet, there are some players who feel more likely to leave than others.

And now, as per a fresh update from La Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems like a deal for Curtis Jones' departure is back on the table.

"A broad selection process hasn't revealed a clear favorite, but it will certainly lead to a signing," they wrote.

"There is, however, a favorite in midfield: Liverpool's Curtis Jones, another Englishman who has never been set aside by the club, nor especially by Cristian Chivu, who considers him ideal for the Nerazzurri's 3-5-2 formation.

"This would lead to the creation of a completely new, increasingly British Inter.

"Contacts with Liverpool have remained at a standstill since the rejected offer a few weeks ago, but negotiations could be rekindled in the coming days. Furthermore, Inter's view on Jones hasn't changed.

"Nor has Curtis himself's desire for a new chapter in Nerazzurri history."

Richard Hughes may have spent over £450 million on new players last summer but, it seems like even that amount of spending hasn't solved their issues.

Liverpool still lack depth in a lot of areas among their first-team squad and, selling their players without bringing new ones in feels like suicide.

One of the main problems that the Anfield outfit faced last term is injuries and, usually, a team of Liverpool's size would have enough back-ups to plug the gaps.

However, thanks to the Reds' lack of planning, Jones and Dominik Szobsozlai ended up being used as right-backs which was far from ideal.

Realistically, it felt like Hughes had set Slot and his men up to fail and, if he sanctions the exit of Jones without bringing a new central midfielder in this summer, it'll be another huge mistake.

Of course, replacing Jones' homegrown status will be close to impossible, especially with how inflated the market is at the moment so, as long as they can sign someone who performs better than him or is more suited to Iraola's style, then a deal should be sanctioned.

If this can't happen, Liverpool need to come to an agreement with the 'fantastic' midfielder and keep him at the club for as long as possible.
