Liverpool are constantly looking for new players and 'in the know' media outlets are constantly reporting links between the club and different plausible transfer targets.

Often it can be highly likely that the target would fit in seamlessly with the team's current squad, and so it is all about working out whether a deal would be feasible or not.

However, there are other occasions whereby the move simply doesn't make sense, even if the financial conditions of the transfer align with Liverpool's budgetary concerns.

As such, weeding through the credible news and the nonsense is a difficult task.

The Reds have previously been linked with Kingsley Coman and a follow-up piece has been posted earlier today on the club's interest in him. But would he be a good buy for us? Let's unpack the details.

Is Bayern's serial-winner a good fit for the Reds?

The report comes from CaughtOffside, which claims that Liverpool are 'preparing a move' for Coman because the player is 'considering his future at Bayern'.

Despite interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, the Reds are 'showing the strongest interest at the moment' with a €40m fee set to be sufficient to tempt to leave Germany.

Tottenham and Arsenal are also tempted by a potential approach, although Liverpool new status as Premier League champions might be enough to sway him to Merseyside and the update specifically mentions how Jota's departure from the club could see Coman be brought in to replace him.

On the face of it, a move for the Frenchman is completely far-fetched. He's experienced - having won 12 league titles in his 10-year career - and he's a versatile attacking asset since he's capable of playing on either wing, while Arne Slot could also play him as a hybrid centre-forward.

Furthermore, at 28-years-old, he still has plenty of gears left to go through before he consider retirement and the last transfer the club made from Bayern Munich was Thiago Alacantara, who proved to be a useful asset for the few years he was a Liverpool player, in between the injury spells.

One problem, however, is his injury record, which is an incredibly concerning read.

Across his career, he has spent 848 days out with an injury, missing 154 games in that time.

A slight caveat to the grim reading might be that he was more troubled in his first five seasons (483 days out and 95 games missed) compared to his last five seasons (365 days out and 59 games missed), but nonetheless, we're talking about nearly three years of unavailability in his playing history.

But then we get to his disciplinary record, which isn't great reading either to be honest.

In the last four seasons, he has received three suspensions, although one of those was for violent conduct at the end of the 2022/23 season, which led to an extend period of time away from the game.

When it comes to yellow cards, the Frenchman is pretty reserved, but when someone touches a nerve in the heat of the moment, he is prone to taking the bait on occasion.

Matheus Cunha at Wolves might be a similar player to him in that respect, although Manchester United have found nothing to suggest that he could prove to be troublesome if they were to sign him.

Liverpool could utilise Coman if he were brought into the squad. He could offer support to Cody Gakpo on the left-wing and Mohamed Salah on the right-wing, but whether the overall package is tempting enough is still to be decided.

Personally, I'm unconvinced. He's already sitting on the sidelines in Vincent Kompany's Bayern plans and it might be a similar situation over on Merseyside if we moved. Furthermore, he doesn't quite fit the age profile that Liverpool have been targeting as of late, although we'll have to see if any further updates come from this transfer link before any final stamp of approval or disapproval is laid down.
