Liverpool star should return to Anfield to SAVE his career
Despite winning the Premier League last season, Liverpool appear to be in decline at the moment.
There is intense pressure on Arne Slot’s job and it appears that a spend of over £400 million in the summer has actually made the Reds worse.
There are of course a number of external factors, and the tragic passing of Diogo Jota will no doubt have had a massive impact on the squad, but Liverpool have been miles off the team they were last campaign.
The Reds will be desperately looking for a way to get back on track and, with just days remaining in the January transfer window, the perfect opportunity may have just arisen for Richard Hughes.
Liverpool can save former star’s career and their own season
The big spend in the summer may have limited Liverpool’s spending power this winter, but the perfect opportunity for the Reds to bring back a former star for free has just emerged.
Raheem Sterling, who swapped Merseyside for Manchester City in 2015, has been repeatedly linked with a return to Anfield for years.
It was announced on Wednesday that Sterling and Chelsea had come to a mutual agreement for the 31-year-old to terminate his contract with the Blues 18 months early.
As it stands, the 82 capped England international is without a club, and Liverpool need a spark to reignite their season.
All the pieces are falling into place for Sterling to finally return to the club he made his name at.
Liverpool should be first in line for Raheem Sterling
Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Steve Staunton are just some of the players who have left Liverpool only to return to the club years later.
Sterling could be the next player to return, and the 31-year-old would likely jump at the chance to add to the 129 appearances he already has for the reigning Premier League champions.
There are a few factors that make Sterling an unconventional target for the Reds, including his age and previous wages, but maybe Liverpool need an unconventional signing to right the ship.
A short-term deal padded with performance bonuses would be the perfect opportunity for Sterling to revive his career and could be the perfect low-risk opportunity Hughes has been looking for this winter.
