A summer of excitement is over but there is still one new arrival everyone is looking forward to at Anfield.

What a couple of months it has been in the transfer window for the Liverpool. The club's supporters have been glued to their smartphones all summer waiting for more developments and more record-breaking transfers.

It's been an exhilarating time. Probably the most thrilling transfer window in the club's entire history.

Richard Hughes has played a key role. From having a lot of doubters to sanctioning some of the biggest deals in the club's entire history, the perception around him has changed.

Hughes has become a renowned figure. Someone who must be respected and who is capable of getting his way, no matter the circumstances.

The Alexander Isak saga was the biggest proof of this. For many months it seemed impossible for Liverpool to get the Swedish forward.

Newcastle didn't want to sell him. The Magpies would do anything to keep hold of him. If they were to sell him, they were going to ask for a ludicrous £150m to £200m fee.

Hughes was not deterred by that talk. Like the greatest poker players, he could read Newcastle's bluff and so he persisted.

All throughout the summer, Hughes and the Reds never wavered from their stance. They were going to try to sign Isak no matter what.

And in the end, they prevailed on the final day, winning a bid for him on their own terms, worth a lot less than what Newcastle had initially wanted for him.

Alexander Isak on international duty

For Isak, it has been a busy period. Just hours after signing his contract with the club on deadline day, he was flying off to international duty with Sweden.

Like the club's other stars who have been called up their respective national teams, he's been on international duty ever since.

So far, Isak is yet to make an appearance. He was kept on the bench against Slovenia but could feature on Monday night against Kosovo.

Liverpool fans will be hoping if he does play, he won't pick up any niggles and comes back to the Reds injury free.

It will be a peculiar time for Isak. He'll be 'coming back' to a club he spent less than 24 hours in before his international duty.

He hasn't met any of his teammates yet, so he'll be an entirely new arrival at Liverpool when training resumes on Thursday.

It's also a tricky time for Isak because he comes on the back of Hugo Ekitike's excellent form. The Frenchman is going to be difficult to oust from the starting line-up given how well he has played.

Isak on the other hand has missed a lot of game time, having not trained nor featured in Newcastle's pre-season games. Missing such a lengthy time means he will need time to get back to match sharpness again.

Hugo Ekitike opens up about Alexander Isak

This will give Ekitike more chances to showcase his quality and cement his place in the starting line-up. Ultimately though Arne Slot will have to make a decision, either on how to play the two with each other or who his first choice will be.

Speaking on France international duty as per GFFN, Ekitike confirmed he's not worried about this at all. In fact, he has confirmed that he's excited to meet the club's new signing and how he thinks Isak joining is 'great.'

“When you play at big clubs, you expect to be in competition with the best players. Isak is a player that I watched, so for him to arrive is great. It will provide tough competition, but I’ll focus on being good and performing well so that it is just the manager’s problem," Ekitike said.
