With the focus now away from transfers, Richard Hughes concentration will fall on contract talks.

There are two notable stars in the club's ranks who have expiring deals next year. Ibrahima Konate is the big one. But Andy Robertson's terms are also going to come to an end in 2026.

Liverpool will want to avoid another saga like last season when all the focus was on the contracts of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The latter with the way it ended even tainted the club's celebrations and run in for the Premier League title.

At the moment, there's a chance Konate could follow in Alexander-Arnold's footsteps. Meanwhile, Robertson, who attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, could also leave on a free transfer after Milos Kerkez took over his position as the club's first choice left-back.

In an ideal world, Hughes will want to keep everyone. But ultimately, there is a line that the Reds do not want to cross.

One player though who Liverpool's sporting director doesn't have to worry about is Cody Gakpo.

He agreed a new 'long-term contract' according to the club's official announcement during the final few days of the transfer window.

After links to move to clubs from abroad, Gakpo has gotten his reward for his fine form last season and for the way in which he started the current campaign.

He's probably been one of the most underrated players in the squad and at 26-years-old, he's playing in his prime years. This season could be an even better season for the Dutchman with the likes of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike around him - and less competition from Luis Diaz.

One thing we haven't been told by the club is the length of Gakpo's contract. In the official announcement there was no mention of when it would expire, only that it was a long-term agreement.

But 'long-term' can have a subjective interpretation. Thankfully while on international duty, Gakpo clairifed just exactly what terms he is on confirming that he signed a five-year deal at the club until 2030.

“No, until 2030 now,” he replied to a journalist who enquired about the length of his contract as per ESPN Netherlands.

“No, which is what I also indicated to the club,” he added.

He also spoke about his contentment at Anfield and how easy it was to stay at the club and pen his new deal.

“I’m happy, my family is happy. We feel at home, and I think that’s also very important. How everything around football is going.

“And besides, football went well last season. And I think we’ve started well as a team this season as well. And then that choice isn’t so difficult for me.”

The Liverpool star's new contract means he could now stay at Liverpool until he's 31-years-old. If he does, he will have the chance to become a legend at Anfield, especially if he continues to perform at the same heights as he did last season.
