Liverpool star confirms he's ready to sign new contract
There's an important Liverpool star ready to sign a new deal at the club.
After all the drama over contracts last season, Richard Hughes definitely came out on top. He secured Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk to new deals.
And he did everything he could to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold at the club. But that was always a hopeless endeavour given that the Reds' former no.66 had already had one foot in Madrid even before the season began.
Now you'd think after that season, Hughes wouldn't have to worry too much about new deals.
But he's back to pondering key deals and negotiating with important players at the club.
Obviously, the main focus is on Ibrahima Konate who now has less than one year at Liverpool. Real Madrid are ready to repeat what they did with Trent all over again.
Liverpool will hope history doesn't repeat itself. But Konate is not the only one Hughes has to tie down to a new deal.
Andy Robertson is also in a similar boat. He was the subject of interest last summer with Atletico Madrid wanting him in the Spanish capital.
Thankfully, Liverpool rejected that proposal and ended up sending Kostas Tsimikas out on loan instead.
But Robertson's future is still unsettled. He has been out of the team since Milos Kerkez's arrival and it's clear long-term he doesn't have that much of a future at Anfield.
He's now 31-years-old, and this is around the time when Liverpool are happy to part ways with their ageing stars. But Robertson should not be one of them.
He's someone who is absolutely still ready to sign a new deal and have an impact in this team. His performances show that.
Having come back into the side against Aston Villa, Robertson was his reliable best. He controlled the game from left-back and it's no coincidence that Liverpool's last two victories have both been times when the Scotsman started against Eintracht Frankfurt and Aston Villa respectively.
On top of everything, Robertson is a key character in the dressing room. He's someone who gets on really well with everyone else and his experience having won everything with the Reds is very vital.
Liverpool don't offer long contracts to players over the age of 30, but Robertson is showing that he is an exception. The reality is that he doesn't want to leave the club.
He wants to stay and fight for his place and while some wrote him off this summer, he's now proving them wrong. Robertson is still very much a vital piece of the Slot machine.
Which means he is absolutely deserving of a new deal.
