Liverpool star causes confusion after what just happened at Anfield
Liverpool added one point to their Premier League tally after they drew against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds have now gone 12 games across all competitions without losing and find themselves fourth in the top flight table.
Indeed, they're still quite a distance away from first-placed Arsenal but the fact that they're only seven points adrift of second-placed Manchester City is pretty impressive.
Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz were the Reds' standout players on Saturday with some of their other teammates also putting in decent shifts.
However, there was one Liverpool player who caused a bit of confusion.
Dominik Szoboszlai's penalty miss causes confusion
Since the 2025-26 season kicked off, set-pieces have been Liverpool's Achilles heel.
They've conceded the most corners out of all the Premier League teams while also scoring the least.
Things such as free kicks and penalties have often gone in their favour, but, on Saturday, Dominik Szoboszlai missed his chance.
Cody Gakpo won the penalty after trying to cut in past Florentino Luis and, since Mohamed Salah is still playing for Egypt, the former RB Leipzig ace was the one chosen to step up.
The Hungarian's penalties are usually a sure-fire way of getting a goal but on 17 January, it just wasn't meant to be.
And, while speaking live on the USA Network, Leon Osman gave his thoughts on the midfielder's missed penalty.
"Wow, what I will say is that he couldn't have hit it any better," he said.
"He was right behind it, the keeper goes the right way, [he] goes for height, goes for right in the top corner to be as accurate as he possibly can, he just doesn't quite get it right, big let off for Burnley."
Dominik Szoboszlai can't let his penalty miss get him down
Alongside Ekitike, Szoboszlai has been Liverpool's best player this season.
The Hungarian has been one of the main reasons that the Reds have as many points to their name in the Premier League as they do with the attacking midfielder being the creative spark of the team.
And, even though his penalty miss is likely to get him down, he can't let it affect him too much.
Indeed, Wirtz may have come into his own a bit more recently, but, in each Liverpool game this season, it's been clear how important Szoboszlai is to Arne Slot's starting XI.
The Reds have now gone unbeaten for 12 games across all competitions and, as long as they can turn their attacks into goals soon, they could be on their way to the Champions League or Premier League title in the near future.
