Liverpool set to make contact to bring BACK cult hero
Liverpool had a summer of change in the 2025-26 transfer window.
Over the last few years, there has been plenty of change that has occurred at Anfield but this summer, something was different.
Whether it was the fact that FSG wanted to build upon the successes of the 2024-25 season or whether they just felt like change was needed, Liverpool ended up spending over £400 million improving their ranks.
This resulted in many fans believing that they’d be close to unstoppable, especially with the form that players such as Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak were in last season.
However, due to many different things such as the Reds’ defence being ropey and the lack of depth that Arne Slot has among his ranks, the Anfield outfit are now 10 points adrift of first-placed Arsenal.
This has resulted in many rumours emerging about the January transfer window with a cult hero now close to making his Anfield return.
Harvey Elliott could make return to Liverpool in the January transfer window
Even though most of the players Liverpool moved on in the summer wanted to exit Anfield, there were some players who fans were left unsure about selling.
One of those players was Harvey Elliott. The midfielder had been with Liverpool since he was 16 years old with Jurgen Klopp seeing him as the next big thing.
The midfielder played a massive number of games for the Anfield outfit but, after Slot chose to leave him out of his plans for most of the 2024-25 campaign, he chose to exit and join Aston Villa.
And, while things may have started out smoothly, they’ve got progressively worse with rumours of the midfielder returning to Liverpool now rife.
That is, according to a report from The Times journalist Paul Joyce who claimed that the âpotentialâ of Elliott returning is now high.
Joyce describes Elliottâs loan move to the Villans as a âmajor disappointmentâ with contact between both clubs now seeming âlikely.â
Harvey Elliott could be exactly what Liverpool need among their ranks
Liverpoolâs creativity has been massively lacking this season.
Most people thought that Florian Wirtz would fit into Liverpoolâs starting XI and solve all of their issues but unfortunately, the German hasnât hit the ground running just yet.
In fact, others such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have performed much better for Liverpool with some questioning whether the former Bayer Leverkusen ace was worth spending ÂŁ116 million on.
Admittedly, the 2024-25 season wasnât the best of Elliottâs career but his versatility coupled with his knowledge of the way Liverpool play could be invaluable to the Redsâ Premier League and Champions League hopes.
The midfielder is still young and has a massively bright future ahead of him and, if he does return to Liverpool and improve things, he could become one of their most important players.
Of course, these are all just rumours at the moment but the fact that Joyce has admitted that contact about a return is âlikelyâ means that itâs something which is being deeply discussed at Anfield.
