Liverpool set to make approach for ANOTHER £100m player

Liverpool have spent their fair share across this transfer window so far.

The summer of 2024 was particularly quiet and the club has decided that there are positions in the squad that need attention and letting another year go by without addressing them isn't possible.

Florian Wirtz solves a whole manner is issues, not least the creativity lost by Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving, alongside adding a new dynamic to the midfield and supporting the different forward roles.

Milos Kerkez adds freshness to the left flank that struggled last season, and Jeremie Frimpong helps to create competition for Conor Bradley and Mohamed Salah on the right hand side.

The overall amount spent is around £200m, although roughly £60m has been brought in through sales - as such, there exists a distinct possibility that further big-money moves are on the cards.

'Gordon is open to a move to Liverpool'

Newcastle are a team on the way up, and they have plenty of players that are of interest to the Reds, not least Bruno Guimaraes in midfield, alongside Alexander Isak - who was last season's best striker.

And in addition to those two, many Liverpool fans have grown to love Anthony Gordon, who spent the early part of his career as a direct rival, playing for the Blue half of the city at Everton.

Having grown up in the area, a move back to Merseyside would make sense, but it has long appeared as though he is off limits, much like the other two players that have caught the fans' eye.

But an exclusive update from Football Insider might be the promising news we've been hoping for.

In their report, it said: "Liverpool remain interested in Newcastle star Anthony Gordon and are plotting a late-summer move, sources have told Football Inside. The 24-year-old came close to a move to Anfield last summer and told friends at the time that he was 'very keen' on the switch.

"Sources say Gordon is still open to a move to Liverpool despite having signed a new long-term contract at Newcastle in October to extend his stay until 2030. Newcastle are reluctant to sell their star players this summer, but privately value the England international at around £100m."

Of course, another £100m fee on the balance sheet is unlikely, and Liverpool would hope to bring that figure down to a more reasonable level, but the opportunity to sign Gordon would be exciting.

After all, Luis Diaz is looking incredibly likely to leave this summer, either to Barcelona or Bayern Munich, and whatever the Colombian helps to bring in could go straight on his replacement.

Furthermore, the report notes that the additions of Anthony Elanga and potentially Jack Grealish might force the England winger's hand into moving elsewhere to guarantee himself minutes.

Whether Diaz leaves or not is still being decided and the idea of replacing him might not come to fruition either, since Cody Gakpo would benefit from the move and Wirtz could to support him.

But if personal terms aren't an issue, then turning down the opportunity to sign Gordon would be an incredibly bold call for the recruitment team to make. The next few weeks might get interesting.

No chance. I'd rather get Rodrygo.
