We are all dreaming about Florian Wirtz at the moment, but Liverpool could be lining up an alternative transfer instead.

This has seen Jeremie Frimpong set to complete a deal to Anfield and rumours of Liverpool also exploring a move for his teammate, Wirtz.

That deal seems unlikely at the moment but not impossible. Bayern Munich lead the chase for Wirtz. However, as Anfield Watch revealed, the German side need to sell players before they can meet Bayer Leverkusen's astronomical asking price of £125m.

That's a fee Liverpool could pay if they decided Wirtz was worth it. But there are potentially even better options on the market who the Reds are actively exploring a move for.

Among them is Xavi Simons, who according to a brand new report the club are now actively holding talks about.

Why it has not been ruled out that Liverpool have held talks with Jurgen Klopp over Xavi Simons

According to a report from TBR Football, Liverpool have done similar checks on Xavi Simons as they have done on Jeremie Frimpong.

This includes talking to Ryan Gravenberch about the Netherlands star and sources close to the story have not ruled out that Liverpool have entered similar talks with the club's former manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The German now works for Red Bull and therefore he will have first-hand information on Simons, which makes this deal a possibility.

According to TBR, it would take roughly £67m for Liverpool to complete the deal for Simons.

There is no mention of this in the article but that figure could be reduced, not just because of Liverpool's close affiliation with Klopp but also because RB Leipzig missed out on European football this season.

Without Champions League and Europa League football, Leipzig may now be forced to sell some of their best talent and Simons is among their greatest assets.

It's obvious Liverpool are looking to complete a deal for a no.10 this summer and Simons ticks a lot of boxes. He covers a lot of ground out of possession and has made 17 goal contributions in 25 Bundesliga matches this season, which is a really good return considering RB Leipzig's struggles.

At 22-years-old Simons is still a really young player who can be moulded into whatever Slot likes.

The Dutch connection is a big factor as well, he knows Gravenberch well and formed a formidable partnership with Cody Gakpo at PSV as well.

Simons' creative numbers can also help to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the aggregate and with Klopp being at Red Bull, this seems like a deal that is very doable on paper.
