Liverpool ready to let €60m deal collapse

Liverpool have plenty of deals that they are happy to agree, so that players who need to move elsewhere get that opportunity, but the financial offers need to make sense for the accounts.

It's rare that the Reds will sell someone for lower than their market. The club is extremely frugal.

Caoimhin Kelleher's move to Brentford for £12.5m plus £5.5m in add-ons might well have been seen as cheaper than expected, but in his circumstances, Liverpool promised him a chance to be No. 1.

With other player such as Darwin Nunez however, whom the club has spent a lot of money on, his departure is going to be for a high fee or it simply won't happen. Liverpool must limit their losses.

Liverpool might leave negotiations with Napoli

Interest in Nunez so far this summer has been primarily from Napoli and it's been a long drawn-out affair. Liverpool's asking price is reportedly a minimum of €60m (£51m) and no bid has come close.

The assumption is that if the Italian club really wants to sign Nunez, then they will pay up. After all, Victor Osimhen is set to leave for around €70m, so the money is there to be spent on a replacement.

But they aren't budging and according to Corriere Dello Sport, it is plausible that Liverpool might give up on the deal in not wanting to compromise their asking price. Richard Hughes is standing firm.

The latest report said: "Liverpool, just to give priority to the British, does not give a millimetre and continues to insist on the inadmissibility of its request for 60 million euros.

"The story has not changed, in the sense that the Reds are very firm on the demands and continue to insist on the price: Darwin is worth 60 million and even the 50 plus five offered by Napoli are not enough."

While it's clear that Nunez has been unsuccessful over the last three years at Liverpool, he is still an incredibly talented player on his day, he just happens to miss big chances more often than we'd like.

However, before he joined the Reds, this was a far less important issue, so it is likely that he has simply struggled to adapt to Premier League football, and he needs a new environment to play in.

But £51m still feels like a particularly generous asking price, considering Al Hilal offered £70m back in January, which was only rejected at the time because it was in the middle of a title charge.

As such, we might see Nunez spend the remainder of the season as the Reds' striker, getting another chance to prove himself, or we'll need approaches from Saudi Arabia for him to leave.
