Liverpool pile PRESSURE on Alexander Isak transfer

Liverpool want to sign Alexander Isak this summer and they're really piling the pressure on. Will Newcastle United feel it?

It's no secret that Liverpool dream of signing Alexander Isak this summer. He's the ultimate striker for them, ticking essentially every single box.

The real question is whether a deal could happen. Newcastle United qualified for the UEFA Champions League, after all, and haven't got much incentive to sell.

But they do have some incentive. Isak is their most valuable player and as he enters the prime of his career, there's a good chance he fancies moving to a title-challenging team.

That on its own won't convince Newcastle to sell but the fact they pretty much need to sell before buying might. After all, they'd rather sell one player for an awful lot of money to create PSR room than rip up the team by selling several.

Any deal, though, would need to happen relatively soon. Newcastle can't afford Isak replacements to leave the market, while they want to make sure they've got plenty of time to actually spend that cash on players they want.

Liverpool know this, too. That's why they haven't given up on signing Isak and now they're really putting the pressure on.

Liverpool turn up the heat on Alexander Isak and Newcastle

Newcastle want to make this decision themselves, of course, so all Liverpool can really do is hurry them along. Publicly sourcing alternatives is the way to do that.

And all reports point to them doing just that. Fabrizio Romano this week admitted that Liverpool are in talks with Hugo Ekitiké - seen by many as the ultimate Isak alternative.

Then there are reports out of Italy that Liverpool are discussing Victor Osimhen with Napoli. Again, he's an Isak alternative, fitting a relatively similar profile.

Newcastle will see this and know that Liverpool are considering alternatives. If they sign one of them, the Isak deal is completely off and the decision is taken from them.

The Magpies would lose their chance to sell one star to fund a squad upgrade and that's a path they may ultimately wish to take.

It suits no one for a striker pursuit to rumble on. Liverpool don't want to be shopping in August - they might not want to shop in July after pre-season starts.
