Nunez has been linked with a number of clubs already in the transfer window. At this stage it seems like his preference is to stay in Europe even though there will plenty of lucrative opportunities presented to him in Saudi Arabia as well.

Liverpool will understand this is a tricky situation, they want to part ways with Nunez but they will want to part ways in the right way. That means, selling one of their prized assets for the right price and also making sure he goes to a destination that he is happy to be in.

After all, no matter what has happened at Liverpool, Nunez is still in the prime of his career and highly rated forward, who would instantly strengthen any team on the planet.

At this stage, he doesn't have an obvious destination, but it seems like a potentially perfect scenario is shaping up for Liverpool to not only sell Nunez but sign a target who the Reds like this summer.

EXCLUSIVE: Wonderkid will join Liverpool first team in pre-season

One of the clubs who has been linked with Nunez is AC Milan, the Italian side were even reported to be considering a bid for the Uruguayan earlier this year.

Recently, reporter Nicolò Schira claimed that Nunez's preference would be to stay in Europe so a move to Milan could be the perfect destination for the Liverpool forward.

Now Matteo Moretto speaking on his YouTube channel has revealed that AC Milan have made contact with Nunez's camp and asked for information about the Uruguayan.

This is a clear intent from the Serie A giants, they've been clearly eyeing Nunez up for a while and it seems like soon they could be ready to strike a deal.

If they do, it will put Liverpool one step closer to potentially signing someone from Milan in what could end-up being a swap deal.

Rafael Leao is someone Liverpool admire and Anfield Watch understands he's on the clubs radar this summer, especially if Luis Diaz departs the club.

Leao is regarded as a perfect fit for Liverpool because he's a like for like replacement for Diaz.

The Portuguese winger is rapid and thrives in one vs one situations and at the same time just like the Colombian he can play as a forward as well, something he has done throughout his career including in his younger days at Sporting CP.

With Liverpool on the look-out for a striker, Leao could even be signed as a potential player for that role even if Diaz stays at the club.

At this point, he cannot do any worse than Nunez has done in the position and at the same time he'd be a long-term replacement for when Diaz does eventually leave, at which point Liverpool could begin their striker search.

As we said, swap deals don't really happen in modern football. But this is a rare opportunity for Hughes to strike a deal that's in everyone's best interest.

Milan will get a player in Nunez, who they've wanted to sign for a long time meanwhile Liverpool get Leao, who is a two-in-one package.

And considering both players are valued around the same price, with Milan wanting at least £60m for Leao and Liverpool wanting £70m for Nunez as Anfield Watch understands, it would likely mean neither team would have to pay a penny.
