Liverpool now ready to allow Andy Robertson to LEAVE

Andy Robertson's contract is set to expire in June and no breakthrough has been made regarding a renewal.

Liverpool had a big summer overhaul that saw many big stars depart, with their vice-captain one of those who came close to leaving.

He decided to stay put, however, despite interest from Atletico Madrid, with the Scotsman still playing a bit-part role this season under Arne Slot.

Due to his immense leadership qualities and presence on and off the pitch, many fans are desperate to see him stay beyond this campaign, though, even if it seems unlikely at this point.

But with that said, Liverpool look like they might be in a position to allow him to leave, with one player in particular starting to step up despite previous criticism.

Milos Kerkez impresses again vs Marseille

Milos Kerkez has come under heavy fire since his arrival from Bournemouth in the summer, with the Hungarian not looking like his usual self.

However, the 22-year-old appears to have found his feet and gets better week after week, with his most recent outing against Marseille highlighting how he is ready to take the torch from the Scotsman for good.

Attack has always been his best form of defence and against the French side, he was able to flex his muscles in this area of the pitch a little more than he has been able to do in the Premier League.

However, he also thrived defensively too, winning four of his five ground duels and three of his five aerial duels, as per sofascore.

He also made six defensive contributions and four recoveries, showing that he did not shy away on what was a huge night of Champions League action.

Overall, this was probably one of his best games in a Liverpool shirt to date, with it becoming much more clear why they were so keen to sign him.

For Robertson, though, it seems much more unlikely that he will regain his starting place in the team, with his chances of minutes off the bench also looking like they will be harder to come by, suggesting a summer departure is best for both parties.

Although fans would love to see him stick around due to his leadership qualities being second to none, no one would blame him if he does decide to leave in search of a new adventure.

Unlike Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure, though, supporters will always hold Robertson in high regard, with his exit far more understandable.

Signed for just £8m in 2017, he has proven to be one of the best bargain-buys in Liverpool's history, with his service deserving of legendary status.

On his day, he was one of the best left-back in the world, but now it might be time for the baton to be passed on to Kerkez.
