Liverpool's hopes of landing a new winger have been futile but there is still time to add another player to the club's ranks.

Signing was never going to be a straightforward piece of business for the Reds. In January, Liverpool missed out on signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who ended up joining PSG instead.

The Reds clearly explored a potential deal for the winger, but in the end Liverpool's interest never materialised in an offer for Kvaratskhelia.

Instead, he became a Champions League winner at PSG and even beat Liverpool in the process of winning the competition.

For Liverpool fans the deal will be a huge disappointment. However, there may be a silver lining.

Why Kvaratskhelia's transfer opened the door for Liverpool to sign DREAM winger

It's quite clear Liverpool are still in the hunt for a left-winger. Luis Diaz has left the club and while Hugo Ekitike can play in the position, that is not his best role.

Arne Slot meanwhile wants quick and direct wingers who carry the ball effectively and have a prowess in one vs one situations. Ekitike can play that role, but he is better as a forward.

That's why the Reds' interest for Kvaratskhelia made sense. However, he is not the only left-winger with that profile on the market.

In fact, as he has moved to PSG, one of his teammates who is also a left-winger now appears to be on the market in Bradley Barcola, and Liverpool want to sign him.

The 22-year-old left-winger completed a €45m deal to join PSG back in the summer of 2023 (Football Transfers). At the time he had interest from Liverpool as well.

Now L'Equipe report that Liverpool are ready to make an approach for him again and splash the cash on Barcola in their efforts to sign a winger this summer. The report claims the club are not done in their mass spending yet and that they have admired the French star for a long time.

He's been a huge hit in Paris, having already made 56 goal contributions in 103 appearances for the club, including 25 in 34 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

But now Barcola faces an uncertain future with Kvaratskhelia's arrival. Given the amount PSG spent on the Georgian it's obvious he is and will be the outright starter in the left-wing role. Since January, Barcola has spent more and more time on the bench.

That leaves Barcola's future at the club uncertain. He can play on the right wing, but PSG already have Kang-in Lee, Ousmane Dembele and Marcos Asensio who can play in that role.

Given this uncertainty around his future, Liverpool are now clearly looking to pounce in what would be a dream deal. Barcola would be the perfect fit for Slot and his ability to play on the right could also come in very handy.

It could be the biggest silver lining from the Reds missing out on Kvaratskhelia.
