Liverpool making BLOCKBUSTER moves to sign world’s best
Liverpool aren't taking their next task lightly. They're making blockbuster moves to sign the world's best.
If we’re being honest, Liverpool’s situation at centre-back is a bit of a mess. The Reds couldn’t tell you what things look like a year from now.
Part of that is because of Giovanni Leoni’s long-term injury. That certainly made things a lot less certain.
But things were already difficult. Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires at the end of the season, with Liverpool struggling to agree terms on a new one.
Joe Gomez was supposed to leave the club in August for AC Milan, only for Liverpool’s collapsed move for Marc Guehi to end that one. But it’s clear his future at Anfield is far from certain.
Then there’s the scary one: Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman only has one more year on his contract after this season and he’ll be 36 by then. That awful time is approaching where Liverpool need to think about replacing him and moving forward without arguably the greatest defender in club history.
One of the greatest ever anywhere, really.
And it appears Liverpool won’t take that task lightly. They’re now being linked with some of the world’s absolute best in the position as they attempt to get things on the right course.
Liverpool's great task
So how do Liverpool make sure they've still got an elite defence in a couple of years? By signing world-class talents.
Of course, Guehi is on that shortlist and Liverpool remain incredibly interested in the Crystal Palace star. But it appears he's only one name on the list.
DaveOCKop claims there have been initial talks over a move for Nico Schlotterbeck, which might be the best-possible signing Liverpool could make, honestly. The German is a world-class talent.
Then there are the consistent reports out of Germany that the Reds hope to sign Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich. Like Konate, his former teammate at RB Leipzig, Upamecano is out of contract next summer.
He would represent a significant change at the back. Potentially a very exciting one, too, and he's undoubtedly one of the world's best right now.
Ronald Araujo is another Liverpool have their eyes on. Once again, the Reds would be shopping at the top table as they aim to rebuild this defence.
So would one of these players suffice? Two? Three? Liverpool need to think about some serious moves and sort out the long-term future of their stars.
But it appears at least one world-class signing is on the way. Even if we can't be certain of his name just yet.
