Liverpool have taken a difficult decision over Jeremy Jacquet after the player's serious injury. The defender is set for surgery.

Liverpool have had a torrid time with injuries this season. It all started with Giovanni Leoni, who badly injured his knee on debut.

That forced immediate surgery and ruled the Italian out for the rest of the season. Awful luck - but he wouldn't be the last to suffer it.

Alexander Isak was next. He fractured his leg against Tottenham Hotspur while scoring a goal, once again forcing surgery and keeping him out long-term.

Now, the Swede should return this season but it's difficult to know what state he'll be in. Or if he can actually find match fitness before the campaign ends - he struggled to find it over the first half of the season, after all.

Conor Bradley then followed them with a terrible knee injury last month. He's again had to have surgery and may not return before 2027.

It turns out that you don't even need to be at Liverpool to suffer a surgery-bound injury, either. Jeremy Jacquet has just found that out.

Liverpool green light Jeremy Jacquet surgery

Teamtalk reports that Liverpool have given their blessing to Rennes for Jacquet to have surgery on the shoulder injury he suffered at the weekend. It’s now unlikely that the defender plays again this season.

In truth, Liverpool didn’t have much of an option here but it’s still a difficult one to confirm. They’ll now be rehabbing a player and bringing him up to speed in a very different way than they planned.

There’s still every hope that Jacquet will be fit long before the start of next season. He’ll be doing so without a full season under his belt, however, and it means he won’t play competitive football for around six months before the campaign kicks off.

It’s far from ideal, especially just a week after he agreed his move to Liverpool. The report claims the Reds are in complete contact with both Rennes and Jacquet, making their preferred pathway clear with this injury.

And if he’s not going to play again for Rennes, then we imagine Liverpool will essentially take complete control of the situation. That feels like the sensible move from all parties, anyway.
