Liverpool leading the race for €50m Mo Salah replacement
As the season draws to a close, Liverpool are beginning to action their summer transfer plans.
Another busy window is expected at Anfield, with several major departures already announced and a few more expected.
As well as sales, there will of course be some fresh faces arriving in Merseyside too.
One of the areas that needs addressing most urgently is the Reds’ faltering attack, especially with Mo Salah set to leave at the end of the season.
The market for top-level attackers is highly competitive, but according to a fresh report Liverpool are leading a Premier League rival in the race for a potential Salah successor.
Liverpool leading Tottenham in race for Salah replacement
Trying to fill the void left by Salah this summer will be a nearly impossible task, but it is one that Richard Hughes is faced with.
A number of names have been linked with a potential Anfield switch, but one of the most exciting is Maghnes Akliouche.
The 24-year-old has become one of Monao’s most important players and will be heading to the World Cup with France.
According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool and Tottenham are the two sides battling it out for the Frenchman’s signature this summer, but the Reds currently have the advantage.
Tottenham will not be able to offer the dynamic attacker European football next season, whereas Liverpool are well placed to qualify for the Champions League.
The Reds may face competition from other European sides, but at the moment they are reportedly in the driving seat for Akliouche.
Capable of playing on either wing, as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, the Monaco man represents a versatile option for Richard Hughes and Arne Slot.
With the majority of his career starts coming on the right wing, Akliouche could be the perfect option to replace Salah in Liverpool’s attack.
His output doesn’t quite match the Egyptian King’s, but all signs point towards him having the potential to up his game in Merseyside and become an effective weapon for Slot’s side.
