It’s becoming evident that Liverpool will be strengthening their squad over the next few transfer windows by hook or by crook.

This may come as a necessity - the contracts of Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk yet to be agreed beyond the end of the season - or out of choice, such as the club’s clear desire to secure the services of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

One area that the club are realising will need investment sooner rather than later is left-back.

Club legend Andy Robertson is beginning to show signs of slowing down and, despite grabbing an assist against Real Madrid, gave away penalties in both games Liverpool played in the past week.

Anfield Watch has previously reported that the club have asked to open talks with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, and a recent report claimed that the Reds are considering a bid for Fulham’s Antonee Robinson in January.

And a new report from Jonathan Ritini in El Crack Deportivo states that Liverpool are interested in the 19-year-old Argentinian left-back Julio Soler.

Could Liverpool sign Julio Soler?

Soler currently plays for Argentinian side Lanus, with the report claiming that River Plate are interested in trying to secure the youngster’s services in the face of pressure from the Reds (and Manchester United, whose transfer strategy appears to be ‘if Liverpool are interested then we should be too’.)

The report claims that River Plate are wanting Soler as a backup to current left-back Marcos Acuña and may have to stump up to $10m (£7.8m).

For that price, if Liverpool think Soler could be the future of the position then offering him significant game time could certainly be the way forward.

Soler cuts a dynamic character, averaging more progressive carries than both Robertson and Tsimikas per 90 this season but significantly less progressive passes, indicating a tendency to be more willing to dribble with the ball than Liverpool currently have.

The Argentinian also averages 3.87 tackles and interceptions per 90, closer to Tsimikas’s 5.77 high than Robertson’s 1.81 low.

If Arne Slot is able to develop the youngster, as he has shown the ability to in such a short time so far, then he could be a significant option for Liverpool going forward.
