Liverpool in talks to agree sensational TRIPLE contract deal
Liverpool are in talks over a triple contract deal right now. It would be a massive statement from the club.
Liverpool spent all of last season battling through three major contract talks. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk were all coming to the end of their respective deals but the club didn't want to lose any of them.
And so that was the side-story of last season as Liverpool raced away to the Premier League title. Could they keep arguably their three biggest stars when all was said an done?
No, was the answer. Salah and Van Dijk did renew their contracts for two more years last April but Alexander-Arnold never did. He instead agreed terms with Real Madrid, as expected, and joined them ahead of the Club World Cup.
There are more contract talks right now, too. Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate are both out of contract this summer and must agree new terms if they're to stay.
But those aren't the only talks Liverpool are involved in. They're pushing for a triple contract deal that would be one hell of a statement.
Liverpool's three contract talks
The Times reports that Liverpool are trying to renew the contracts of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister. All three joined the club in 2023 and are due renewals before their deals wind down.
Here's the key bit:
"The development comes with Liverpool looking to tie down the future of Szoboszlai’s fellow midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, while there has been contact with the representatives of Alexis Mac Allister about the structure of a future agreement, although talks have not been in depth thus far."
And that's interesting because it's been clear for a while that Mac Allister didn't feel like the priority when it came to renewal talks. Perhaps that's a reflection of his squad status or perhaps it's a reflection of Liverpool's feelings over a possible renewal.
It may well be, after all, that one of the two parties there isn't on board with a new contract. There's certainly been interest in Mac Allister from elsewhere.
Then again, you can say that about Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, too. Liverpool's midfield trio is in demand, with Real Madrid linked consistently for at least one of them.
Renewing their deals, then, would feel like quite a statement. It's what the club is apparently trying to do right now - and we certainly wish them the best of luck with it.
