Liverpool in pole position to sign £50m star
Even though Arne Slot's Liverpool future is up in the air at the moment, that hasn't stopped the club from being linked with several players.
The 2025-26 season has proven that, despite spending over £450 million on new players in the summer, the Anfield outfit still need to add some extra firepower to their ranks.
Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are just three Liverpool players who have failed to live up to expectations this season.
This has caused massive problems in L4 with the Reds now sixth in the Premier League table.
This lack of form has meant that new attackers are being sourced by Slot and Richard Hughes with the Anfield outfit now in pole position for a £50 million star.
Liverpool are now 'leading' the way for Mateus Mane despite Manchester United's interest
Liverpool and Manchester United have faced similar problems this season which is why both clubs are being linked with the same players ahead of the summer transfer window.
Both clubs want to build their teams for the future with Liverpool seemingly doing a better job of this during the last summer window.
On paper, joining Liverpool seems to make plenty of sense to any potential incomings but, if they don't earn Champions League qualification next season, they'll be a much less attractive option.
However, that prospect hasn't put Mateus Mane off joining the Anfield outfit as Slot's men are now 'leading' the way for his transfer.
That is, according to an update from Caught Offside who state that the 18-year-old is attracting 'strong interest' from Liverpool.
Wolves are 'resigned to losing' their star man with Premier League relegation slowly becoming a real possibility.
The report shares Man United were the ones expected to sign Mane but now, Liverpool are 'leading the race' for his transfer with the club 'fully prepared' to make a bid for him in the summer.
Wolves want a fee worth around £50 million to prise him away from the Molineux, which, for a Premier League experienced 18-year-old seems like a fair valuation.
Liverpool have some tough decisions to make in the summer transfer window
Even though most Liverpool fans thought that they'd be sorted for years to come with the players they brought in last time around, it's clear that some more changes need to be made.
Salah's future is undecided with the Egyptian King entering the final year of his contract with the club and others such as Federico Chiesa are constantly being linked with moves away.
Mane, Morgan Rogers and Yan Diomande are just three payers that the Anfield outfit will need to choose from in the summer.
Each of them have a different price point which means that the pros and cons for every player need to be extensively weighed up before a final decision is made.
Of course, the Premier League's financial fair play rules also need to be taken into account which could mean that some of Slot's current crop of players could end up being sold.
There's a lot for Slot and Hughes to sort in the summer but for now, Liverpool must ensure that they're going to qualify for the Champions League next season.
