Anfield. Under the lights. The beginning of the season. Long sleeves adidas shirts. A new striker.

Fernando Torres.

A special performance. Capped off with a goal. And that knee slide in front of the crowd.

That was the beginning of the Torres years at Liverpool. And oh my how beautiful those years were. How adored Torres was. El Nino was the talk of the city back then.

No matter how it ended, Torres was iconic during his time at the club. He was Liverpool's best player at times and definitely a crowd favourite.

Liverpool have had great attacking players since. But they haven't really had a beloved no.9.

That's about to change. Because 18 years later, Liverpool have another Torres. It's happening all over again.

Once again a new era is starting. And it started at Anfield. Under the lights. Adidas long sleeve tops. Except it wasn't Chelsea who were the opponents but Bournemouth.

But the end result was the same. Hugo Ekitike scoring, just like Torres did on his debut. And just like the Spaniard, he capped it off with a knee slide in front of the crowd.

Ekitike's debut was as good as they come. He got himself an assist later on in the match providing Cody Gakpo with an opportunity he had to take, and he took it very calmly.

But it wasn't just the goal and the assist. It was Ekitike's aura, the way he made Liverpool a better team. Everything he did was excellent.

He was a constant nuisance. Had exquisite technical touches, and exhibited a lot of speed, too.

It's why he's Liverpool's new Torres. This was exactly what El Nino was about as well. He made Liverpool a better team and he made everyone around him better.

Ekitike will be a world-class signing for Liverpool. At 23-years-old, the sky is the limit. And this was definitely just the beginning.

There will be more knee slides coming.

Now we just look forward to the prospect of him playing alongside Alexander Isak. What a duo that could become.
