Liverpool handed major boost as rivals drop out of race for 'powerful' sensation

Liverpool's defence is one of their main areas that need upgrading this summer.

Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson were about the only defenders who had decent seasons for the Reds last term and, since the latter of the two has already left, there's clearly a lot of work to be done.

Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet are obviously two options that the Reds have at their disposal but, since neither of them have played Premier League football and are both still young, there's a lot of worry about whether they have what it takes to be Van Dijk's partner.

This has led to rumours emerging left, right and centre about the future of the club and now, it feels like Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola may have stumbled across the perfect player for them.

Jacobo Ramon is one of the many reasons why Como find themselves in the Champions League next season.

The Serie A outfit finished fourth in the league with players such as Nico Paz and Ramon becoming some of the best players in Italy's top flight.

The duo were signed from Real Madrid and more than proved their worth.

Liverpool have long been linked with the Spaniard with many other clubs following suit.

However, a fresh update from Spanish outlet Fichajes has shared that one of the Reds' rivals for his transfer has now dropped out of the race.

"Continuing with the player, he has been instrumental in securing the Italian team's Champions League qualification.

"A free agent until 2030, the defender is also being scouted by two other Premier League powerhouses : Arsenal and Liverpool . However, Chelsea's pursuit of him is over."

Much like Jacquet and Leoni, Ramon is only 21 years old.

And, even though fans would probably rather have an experienced centre-back next to Van Dijk, the fact that Carlo Ancelotti has already dubbed Ramon a 'powerful' player proves how good he actually is.

His statistics are also fairly impressive as he won 113 aerial duels in the Serie A last term [Fotmob] which equates to aroun 66.9 per cent of the total he attempted.

The Spaniard also made 226 defensive contributions and won 182 of the ground duels he attempted which is roughly 60.9 per cent.

His passing accuracy is also a sight to behold as 91.4 per cent of his passes made it to their intended targets.

There's not a lot that the Spaniard can't do and, depending on how much Como want for him, it feels like Liverpool should throw everything they can towards bringing Ramon in this summer.
