Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have created a bit of a rivalry between themselves over the last couple of years.

Luis Enrique's men have knocked the Reds out of the Champions League during both campaigns with the Ligue 1 outfit going on to win the entire thing.

Since their 2025-26 exit was rather shocking, the Anfield outfit have been linked with several players to bolster their ranks, including Bradley Barcola.

And, even though PSG clearly have one of the best teams in the world, it hasn't stopped them from being linked with several new players themselves.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, many rumours have been shared with the latest news to emerge from France handing Liverpool a massive blow.

Paris Saint-Germain have added Matheus Fernandes to their shortlist

At the moment, Matheus Fernandes is one of the most talked-about footballers in the world.

The Portugal international was one of West Ham United's best players during the 2025-26 season with his performances catching the eye of some of Europe's elite.

However, the fact that he's been relegated twice in two seasons is a bit of a worry.

Despite this, most clubs from around the world, including Liverpool, have been linked with a move for Fernandes and now, as per a fresh update from Santi Aouna, PSG have just entered the chase.

"PSG has made contact with West Ham to find out the exit conditions for Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes," he wrote via his personal X account.

"The Hammers are demanding 50M€ for Summerville and 80M€ for Fernandes.

"Discussions have also taken place with the entourages of both players.

"Very strong competition for Matheus Fernandes. Real Madrid and Manchester United & PL clubs interested."

Liverpool need to figure out their priorities as soon as possible

If you look at Liverpool's performances from the 2025-26 campaign, it's clear that almost every area of their squad needs an upgrade.

Perhaps the only area that might be safe is their goalkeeper, that is, if Alisson stays at Anfield of course.

However, in every other area, at least one or two players need to be brought in to try and get Liverpool on level-terms with their title rivals.

This is why every other day a new player is being linked with the Reds as, if they don't have an array of options, they could end the summer transfer window with a severe lack of depth which would be far from ideal.

That's why the club must figure out where their priorities lie before it's too late.

Of course, the World Cup will allow them some extra time to figure out their plans but, once that ends in around a month or so, negotiations will have to be completed in double quick time, especially if they want to sign their main targets.

And, since Fernandes is now being looked at by PSG in a deal worth around £69 million, decisions need to be made as quickly as possible.
