Liverpool give GREEN light to €50m centre-back signing
Liverpool are aware of the fact that Ibrahima Konate might leave on a free transfer this summer.
It is this reality which is why Marc Guehi was approached before Crystal Palace eventually rejected the £35m proposal on the table. As such, we might now get to see one free transfer replace another.

However, the competition for the Englishman's signature is going to be rife and as such, there is a lack of certainty that his move will get across the line. He now has a multitude of different options.

So the Reds are doing the same - keeping their options open. One linked centre-back is said to be the perfect fit for Arne Slot's system and he's even got experience playing in the Champions League.
Araujo signing receives green light
According to Team Talk, the Reds have not just identified Barcelona's Ronald Araujo as a replacement for Konate, but stylistically he is seen as a perfect fit for the defensive setup.
The Uruguayan defender is still only 26 years old and he has has six years of experience at Barcelona, growing into his role as a reliable defender that regularly starts for the Spanish side.
Most recently, however, the player has received competition for his place, so while he's in contract until 2031, his future might be in doubt, opening the door for a move if Liverpool get encouragement.
Current reports suggest around €50m (£44m) would be enough to tempt Barcelona into considering his departure, given the club's finances still aren't quite in perfect nick yet. More youthful options are available to Hansi Flick, so the Reds could perhaps test their resolve in January or next summer.
The news surrounding Araujo is of course boosted by the speculation surrounding Konate who might leave in January for a transfer fee or in the summer on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract - if the Frenchman decides against signing a new deal with the Reds, that is.
And it must also be caveatted by the fact that the report claims Guehi is still the top centre-back target for a move, but as with every transfer strategy, you need have a few options shortlisted.
Despite his age, which slightly goes past the age range that Liverpool have been targeting, Araujo would be a really useful asset to sign because of his experience, as with Guehi, and so we could see progress on the Uruguayan, although you feel as though his involvement at Barcelona would need to lessen in order for the player to look at opportunities outside of playing for the Spanish giants.
