Liverpool get green light for extraordinary €25m deal
Liverpool have the green light to complete an extraordinary transfer.
Pretty much since Michael Edwards has taken over as sporting director during his first reign at the club he's always tried to break intop the South American market.
Ever since Brexit changes have made it easier for South American players to acquire work-permits due to new point-based immigration system, the Premier League has increasingly turned towards investing in players from the continent.
Brighton have reaped the most rewards making moves to sign Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister among others. But they are not the only ones, Manchester City, Wolverhampton and Chelsea have also used it to their advantage.
Liverpool as of now, haven't really entered the market.
That is despite having a large scouting presence in South America, and having made multiple attempts to bring players in to no avail.
Part of the problem has been how much prices are inflated, especially in Brazil. A club like Real Madrid can afford to make a big risk in signing players like Rodrygo, Vinicus Jr and Endrick for large transfer fees. Liverpool cannot afford to do the same.
Edwards and his team know they have to find the bargains in the market, and that's often very difficult.
Or well it was...
Until now.
It's been heavily reported that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in Vasco da Gama forward Rayan. The 19-year-old Brazilian has scored 20 goals in all competitions for his side this year and has been the breakout star in Brazil.
He's an interesting profile for Liverpool because he's not your typical no.9. Rayan is strong and relatively tall at 1.85 metres. But he's also very technically gifted.
He can weave past players with ease and there's a bit of Hugo Ekitike about him. The only difference is that he likes to operate on the right and cut onto his left foot.
Rayan has even played frequently as a winger for Vasco, but he could equally suit the 4-4-2 diamond formation Liverpool are employing right now, as one of the two attackers, coming and peeling off to the right side.
Now normally you'd have to spend a fortune on a player like him. With 20 goals this season and still being so young, you'd expect him to command a huge fee.
However, according to Ekrem Konur, Vasco only want €25m for his services.
That would make him an utter bargain. It would be an extraordinary deal for Liverpool to pull off. We're talking about one of the best players to play in Brazil at this age in a very long time.
So, this is a massive green light for Edwards and his recruitment team to finally sign a star from the continent. Rayan is absolutely the perfect option for Liverpool.
