Liverpool forward is now Roma's DREAM January signing

Surprise reports in Italy over the last few days have linked Mohamed Salah with a return to Roma.

The Egyptian King spent two memorable seasons in the Italian capital before moving to Liverpool in 2017. And with the 33-year-old’s future at Anfield in doubt it had been suggested that the Giallorossi would seek a loan deal for him this winter.

The operation was set to cost the Stadio Olimpico side around £10m in wages - and that is ultimately a sum they were not willing to pay.

Roma focus on Chiesa

Instead it now appears that Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has set his sights on another Liverpool forward in the shape of Federico Chiesa.

The Italy international is also wanted by Juventus this winter - with his former club said to value his versatility. But Roma’s interest is long-standing as the Serie A side wanted the 28-year-old originally last summer.

No deal was concluded for Chiesa however with the winger opting to stay and fight for his place at Anfield.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport Chiesa is now back on the menu at Trigoria - a signing which would end Gasperini’s chase for a new wide man.

The signing of Leon Bailey on loan from Aston Villa hasn’t worked out with it expected that the Jamaican departs in January - paving the way for Chiesa to arrive.

“Chiesa is back in fashion: Gasp has been waiting for a winger since August,” the report reads.

And Romapress goes one step further - describing Chiesa as the “dream” of director of football Frederic Massara.

“Massara’s dream, and not only that, is still Chiesa, who is looking to make the most of his limited playing time at Liverpool,” their report reads.

Chiesa has established himself as a fan favourite at Anfield since joining from Juve for £12m in September 2024.

But the forward has been unable to make a decisive breakthrough under Arne Slot - who has offered him only one start in the Premier League this season.
