The situation remains the same with just a couple of days to go. Can they actually get this one over the line, though?

There has reportedly been progress on that front. Now it's a race against the clock to convince Newcastle United to sell.

Marc Guehi is another who Liverpool might be able to bring in. He's now in the final year of his contract and the Reds are trying to strike a cut-price deal with Crystal Palace.

Then you've got the sales. Harvey Elliott could leave the club, with RB Leipzig interested in him as their Xavi Simons replacement.

And he's not the only senior Liverpool player who could soon depart.

Kostas Tsimikas to AS Roma

Fabrizio Romano confirms that Liverpool are close to loaning Kostas Tsimikas to AS Roma. It would be a one-year loan with the Italians entirely covering his salary.

Tsimikas is said to want the move and has in fact pushed for it to happen. But it’s not necessarily what Liverpool wanted.

Reports the other day suggested they weren’t on board with a loan. Liverpool hoped to outright sell Tsimikas as he’s become surplus to requirements after Milos Kerkez joined.

Tsimikas, though, appears to prefer the loan to Roma. It essentially forces Liverpool’s hand there - they can’t afford to keep him on the books this season as he won’t fit into the squad.

A loan to Roma it is, then. Perhaps Tsimikas feels he can find a way back in at Liverpool down the line, or perhaps he prefers the move there over any of the permanent options afforded to him.

Either way, Tsimikas will remain on his Liverpool contract for at least another year.
