Under-pressure Liverpool star steps into BIGGEST game of his career
One Liverpool star is walking into the biggest game of his career this weekend as the Reds return to action. The pressure is on.
Liverpool are finally back in action this weekend with the return of the Premier League. It’s been a long international break, made to feel even longer thanks to the Reds’ form going into it.
Three consecutive defeats left everyone with a lot to dwell on and with no real way of rectifying it. Everyone at Liverpool will have been eager to get into more games as they seek a way to reverse their form.
Fortunately, most of Liverpool’s players have had great games with their national sides. It feels as though they’ll be returning to the Reds in better form.
However, that’s not the case with everyone. Alisson Becker wasn’t able to head off to Brazil for the break thanks to an injury and it’s one that could actually keep him out until after the next international break.
That injury, which tends to happen at least once a season with Alisson, thrusts Giorgi Mamardashvili into the side and with immediate pressure on him. If the Georgian wants consistent minutes, he must shine in these periods when Alisson is out.
Liverpool vs Manchester United
Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield this weekend in what is always one of the biggest games of the entire season. This time it comes with extra pressure, though, as both teams seek to make a statement.
It's difficult to overstate how disastrous it would feel for Liverpool to come back from the break and lose a fourth consecutive fixture. Let alone to United.
That piles extra pressure onto someone like Mamarashvili, who faces the biggest game of his club career here. Make a mistake and it'll tarnish him for some time.
The flip side, of course, is that Mamardashvili can instantly make himself a hero with a top performance and pile some pressure back on Alisson. It's games like this that build a reputation and the Georgian has to do that if he truly wants to rival Liverpool's no.1.
