FSG CANCEL game-changing deal after money concerns
FSG have called off a truly game-changing deal that would have transformed Liverpool. And it's down to financial worries.
FSG and Liverpool started something very interesting back when Jurgen Klopp decided to step down as manager. The German’s exit brought several names back to the fold in a mass overhaul.
Michael Edwards, the former Liverpool sporting director, returned to the fold but not with the club - he now works for FSG. Julian Ward, Edwards’ replacement in the role at the Reds, also returned to FSG.
That was part of a project for FSG to buy more football clubs. They’re chasing the multi-club model, a controversial pursuit in modern football.
They’ve looked at several clubs over the last nearly-two years, including Bordeaux in France and Malaga in Spain. Nothing has materialised, however, and now their latest attempt may have collapsed, too.
FSG's Getafe attempt
It was heavily reported this year that FSG were pushing to buy Getafe. The La Liga side appeared to be a very solid price and ripe for growth - and available to buy.
A club based around Madrid was perfect for FSG's plans to grow their football portfolio and everything appeared to be going well. And now it seems the deal is off.
That's according to Marca. They say that FSG are now out of any sorts of negotiations due to the overall finances of the purchase.
There's no question that they can afford to buy Getafe. What they can't afford, however, is to build them up into an elite team.
FSG feel that would take an awful lot of money and the way finances are structured in La Liga makes it incredibly difficult to do that. Therefore, the feeling is that while Getafe could be added to the portfolio, to what end would it be?
The process is largely pointless if they can't develop the club properly and they don't believe they could do that. Discussions are off, then - and the search continues for another club under FSG.
