Liverpool’s season is in danger of disintegrating. The Reds are adrift in the race for the Premier League title - sitting 12th - having lost six of their last seven games.

Overall their record now stands at nine defeats in their last 12 matches - the latest humiliation coming at Anfield on Wednesday. Arne Slot’s side were beaten 4-1 by PSV - a team in form but a side that Liverpool should be beating comfortably given the disparity in resources.

It follows another disappointing result at the weekend - a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest. Slot seems unable to arrest the decline with the Premier League champions looking a mess both with and without the ball.

If things don’t change then there is every chance that FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes make a change.

The Dutchman is under contract until 2027 and although not thought to be in immediate danger there is certainly a reason for concern.

Liverpool’s record in recent months is overwhelmingly poor - even more so when you consider the £450m spent in the summer transfer window.

If Liverpool decide to make a change there aren’t many high-profile candidates out there right now. And the identity of one name reportedly on the list for FSG will stun you.

Ange is admired massively at Liverpool

According to a report in TEAMtalk, Ange Postecoglou is well-liked inside the Anfield corridors of power.

“Former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou is someone the Liverpool board admire massively and he would be seen as someone who would suit the club, despite his very clear struggles at Nottingham Forest,” the report reads.

“However, he was never seen as a good fit at the City Ground and his dismissal from the role has not dampened Liverpool admiration in him. However, there is a long way to go before the Aussie is the man in charge at Anfield, with Slot retaining backing for now.”

Postecoglou made his name with Australia, winning the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, before a successful spell at Yokohama F. Marinos. He was picked up by Celtic after winning the J1 League title and then joined Premier League side Tottenham in 2023.

After a strong start Postecolgou’s win ratio plunged but he did hang on long enough to win the UEFA Europa League title last season.

Nottingham Forest replaced Nuno Espirito Santo with the Australian back in September but he lasted only eight matches before being sacked without a single win.
