‘Within two’: Manager tipped to REPLACE Arne Slot at Liverpool
Is this the man to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool? He’s certainly being tipped to do so - right as the Dutchman endures his roughest period in charge.
Arne Slot's first season in charge of Liverpool went about as smoothly as it possibly could. The Reds won the title comfortably, with the campaign starting on a ridiculously good winning run.
By the time Liverpool's form slipped a bit, the title was pretty much wrapped-up. Slot could do no wrong and it was easy going, really. About as easy going as being Liverpool boss can be, anyway.
This season, however? Things are different. Liverpool again started with a solid winning run but the performances never looked right. The Reds' luck then turned and now the results are in the toilet.
One win in six Premier League fixtures has ramped up the pressure on both the team and Slot. Especially as things don't appear to be getting any better.
And now an outside voice is pointing to a potential replacement for Liverpool's current head coach.
Nicky Hayen to Liverpool?
There's a lot of hype around Nicky Hayen right now, with the Belgian enjoying a really good 18 months in charge of Club Brugge. Hayen delivered the title in his first season and followed it up with the Belgian Cup. Not only that, but Brugge made it all the way through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
He's heavily linked with the Celtic job after Brendan Rodgers left the club - in fact, it now looks as though he's heading there. But does he have loftier ambitions than that?
Hayen previously worked for Haverfordwest as the first Belgian coach in Welsh football's top flight. He did very well there, too, turning their fortunes around in a short spell before leaving for Brugge's Under 23 team.
Rob Edwards, who hired Hayen, is adamant that the Belgian is destined for the absolute top.
“He presented his project to us, and we simply wanted to hear every word he said,” Edwards told Sport.
“The guy was a workaholic. You could see it in the impact he had on the players. He dedicated his time to getting to know them. He was very methodical. He asked about their well-being; he was also concerned about the mental aspect of the game.
“He was very calm. He wasn’t one of those who shouted in the locker room; he spoke and was heard. Despite not being the loudest or most aggressive, he had a special aura. He’s a family man, doesn’t drink, and doesn’t use social media. He simply focuses on his work.”
“I think Nicky Hayen will replace Arne Slot as Liverpool manager within two years.”
Now, we don't think Liverpool will want to move on from Slot within two years. Probably not within five, in all likelihood, but Hayen is absolutely a name to keep an eye on.
He's working wonders in Brugge. Do the same at Celtic and plenty of elite clubs will be after him - and there's certainly a future where Liverpool are one of those.
