Liverpool are not the type of club that ordinarily allows itself to get into contract situations.

Recent events might have changed fans' perspective on this, but everyone likes to know what the situation is and attempts to resolve it are made well in advance of when they are required.

Trent Alexander-Arnold left to join Real Madrid this summer, but around 18 months prior, he was contacted to try and renew his deal. Nothing could be done to change his mind. He wanted to leave.

Likewise, the decision to renew Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk came late because the club's age policy and wage structure needed to be reconsidered. Those were valid concerns held by Liverpool.

But elsewhere, everything seems to be going fairly smoothly, despite the lingering problem with Ibrahima Konate that is still unresolved. Earlier this week, it was reported that a wonderkid in the academy was going to sign a new deal, and it appears as though another player might follow suit.

Academy talents receive new contracts

As mentioned, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha will be approached by the club for contract talks to offering him his first professional deal, as the Reds begin to map out a pathway for him moving forward.

He shone in the pre-season fixture against Preston on Sunday afternoon, and it is clear to see that he will be a hugely talented player for the club to utilise. Tying him down for the future is integral.

Well, another player appears to be in a similar boat, and according to Liverpool News, it will be 18-year-old Karim Ahmed that is next on the list to receive a new contract.

Their exclusive report on the situation said: "Liverpool have offered Ahmed fresh terms, as per their retained list, but there has been no official update on his situation. He is set to sign a new contract with the Reds and it could be within the next week, Liverpool News has learned.

"A source close to the situation said: 'He's a skilful player who is full of creativity and can be a game changer. He is flexible position-wise but has the vision to unlock defences as an attacking midfielder. He was held back by a few niggly injuries last season, but is looking to kick on now.'"

Last season he scored five goals for the under-18 set-up and his trajectory is looking good. Liverpool are not short of midfielders right now, but this deal might be a sign that he could be looking at getting some first-team opportunities in the next couple of years, if his development remains on track.

His Egyptian nationality links him to Salah straight away, and the winger is claimed to have been down to the academy from time to time to keep an eye on him, which is certainly positive news.

So while many fans could feel like complaining about the unresolved contract issues that are taking longer than some might have expected, the club is still attempting to be productive by securing deals that are just as integral for Liverpool's future. The academy is glistening with talented players.
