Liverpool absence CONFIRMED; will miss at least next two fixtures
Arne Slot has confirmed a major absence for Liverpool. The Reds will be without their star for at least the next two weeks.
Liverpool take on Manchester United this weekend in a return to Premier League action. It won't be a routine one - not that it ever really is against them - as both teams have a lot to prove.
The Reds will host United knowing they must correct their recent form. Three consecutive defeats has tainted a flawless start to the campaign and it's a run that cannot go on for much longer.
The international gave everyone an opportunity to breathe but it needs to have been a reset. Get back to winning ways here and Liverpool will quickly forget about a string of poor results.
Injuries aren't making it easy to do that, though. Ibrahima Konate picked up a problem in Liverpool's last outing against Chelsea, going off with a thigh injury.
It does appear that he'll return for the Reds against United, but he did miss out on playing for France over the break because of the problem. It remains to be seen if he's actually ready for 90 minutes.
Ryan Gravenberch had a hamstring issue for the Netherlands, as confirmed by boss Ronald Koeman. That was a huge concern for Liverpool, though Arne Slot made it clear on Friday in his pre-match press conference that the midfielder is completely fine.
The same cannot be said for Alisson Becker, however.
Alisson Becker's status
Alisson Becker went off injured against Galatasaray last month and missed Liverpool's next game against Chelsea. It was said at the time that he might miss all the way through the next international break in November - and it increasingly looks like that will be the case.
"Alisson is not training with us, so he is out," said Slot at his press conference. "How long is he out?
"It's difficult to say as the end phase of rehab always gives you positives and negatives but he will not play for the weekend or next week."
That's at least two more matches without Alisson, then. And we all know this usually means he's out for a few more games after that, too.
It keeps the pressure on Giorgi Mamardashvili as this was essentially what he was brought in for. This is his time to shine and prove he can compete for the no.1 shirt.
The biggest game of his club career is this Sunday as a result. A massive one.
