Arne Slot's Alisson plans REVEALED amid transfer interest

There has been little question over Alisson Becker’s position as Liverpool’s number one since he arrived at Anfield.

The arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer could upset the apple cart however, and Arne Slot will have a big decision to make in a few months’ time.

Caoimhin Kelleher’s departure looks all but certain, meaning Alisson and Mamardashvili will be the two ‘keepers fighting it out for the Reds’ no.1 spot next season.

Speculation over Alisson’s future is rife, despite Anfield Watch exclusively revealing the Brazilian is very happy at Anfield and has no intention of forcing a move away.

There may be some concerns over playing time heading into the next campaign, but Slot’s plans for Alisson now appear to have been revealed.

Slot’s Alisson plan explained

The deal to bring Mamardashvili to Merseyside was made before Slot had been able to make a proper assessment of the squad at his disposal, but the Georgian still looks like a great addition.

Regardless of Mamardashvili’s impending arrival, TBR Football have revealed that Slot has no plans to change his no.1, and Alisson will remain the first choice at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Mamardashvili is reportedly viewed as a high-profile back up rather than an immediate successor, however he is eight years younger than Alisson so the potential to be a long-term replacement remains.

Slot faced a decision of whether to make the Georgian shot-stopper available for loan for another term, but the plan now seems to be to have him come in as a direct replacement for the departing Kelleher.

There is plenty of transfer interest in Alisson, but the Brazilian looks set to remain at Anfield for at least another season.

How much will Mamardashvili play at Liverpool?

Just because he isn’t coming in to be an immediate starter doesn’t mean Mamardashvili won’t get a game at Liverpool.

Alisson has a very mixed injury record, missing 49 matches for club and country since the start of the 2023/24 season.

That record suggests that the Reds’ new ‘keeper will get some minutes to replace the inevitably injured Alisson at some point, but there is also potential for the 24-year-old to become Liverpool’s cup goalkeeper – a role that Kelleher played under Jurgen Klopp.

Mamardashvili will also have the chance to impress every day in training and, just because he will start the season as a backup, doesn’t mean he won’t be able to usurp Alisson’s starting spot.

Alisson will remain Liverpool’s no.1 for next season, but Mamardashvili will no doubt be waiting and ready to step up when called upon.
