Liverpool defender jets out amid late transfer speculation
The January transfer window has been a rollercoaster for Liverpool.
The prospect of any new signings arriving this winter had been ruled out multiple times, but the Reds still came close to making a few additions, eventually agreeing a deal to bring Jeremy Jacquet to Anfield in the summer.
Andrew Robertson and Curtis Jones were both linked with moves away at one point, and Lewis Koumas returned to the club only to depart on loan again.
Discussions to bring Harvey Elliott back to the club were also rumoured, but the 22-year-old now looks set to stay at Aston Villa.
One defender had been linked with a potential move away, and it now looks clear where his future lies.
Defender’s future confirmed on deadline day
Amara Nallo has featured sporadically in Arne Slot’s first-team squad over the past 18 months, making several appearances in that time, but there has been plenty of speculation towards the end of the winter window that the 19-year-old could leave on loan.
Heading into deadline day it remained unclear exactly what the plan was for the England U20 international, but now his future looks decided.
Nallo was part of the Liverpool U19 squad that jetted out to Slovakia on Monday morning ahead of their UEFA Youth League last-32 meeting with MSK Zilina.
The fact that the young defender has travelled with the young Reds is a sure sign that he won’t be heading out on loan this window and will likely continue to sit on the periphery of Slot’s first-team.
With Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate Liverpool’s only two available senior central defenders, it makes sense to keep Nallo around, especially if Liverpool continue to progress in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
Bar any very late shocks, Nallo will remain at Liverpool for the rest of the season, but a loan move could still materialise in the summer when Jacquet arrives and Giovanni Leoni returns to full fitness.
